Yes had a look earlier and sent link to friend thank you for that
I think they pick them up from heath centres etc free normally ...looking online about the national shortage its going to be end of march they are expecting or hoping it to start to build up again
Lots of headlines about the shortage
Its not something I would have thought of with not using them but have advised mate to buy some and have some in as reserve at least ....

Last weekend I placed 6kg of flour in mylar bags; the start of my food store. I started storing water late last year (128 litres so far) in 10L jerry cans) using a method kindly described to me by Frnc in another thread.

I also ate a couple of Seven Oceans biscuits to see what they're like. I'd hate for STHTF just to find out I can't stand anything in the food store! Luckily they're pretty tasty, like a less sweet shortbread.

Yes they are quite tasty. 128 litres so far, crikey. You don't mess about! I have 60 actually filled, and 20 of those are overdue (I aim to swap every 6 months, but two got left, so I'll do them next time, but early). Regarding food storage, my main strategy is to buy extra pasta and tins of tuna. I rotate them in normal use. I keep the pasta in the bags they come in.

Have got into a routine now, in this weather, of turning the central heating off around mid afternoon. Yesterday I boosted my room in the early evening with an electric radiator, but this used only 0.25kWh, so cost about 7p.

New tomato knife was only £3.49, but is very sharp, and has a nice aluminium handle that blends seamlessly into the blade. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DLKCCJJ9

Today I'll be rotating some prep food - will make a batch of sauce and have pasta. Got a bit of opened pasta to use up, and a bag that expires next month. Will use a tin of tomatoes, and tube of puree. Seems a shame not to have real tomatoes, seeing as I just got a 'tomato knife', something I'd never heard of til I started looking.

Stuck at work today and listening to one of those ‘end of the world’ radio clips on YouTube as you do, and the character was saying how one of the other characters dies after scratching himself on a rusty nail and catching an infection. The character did not have antibiotics…

It got me thinking, does anyone know how to make antibiotics from scratch? I have ‘The Knowledge’ on audiobook but can’t be bothered going through it all. There’s clips on YouTube but I never really trust them, best place to ask is obviously here…

No you cannot make your own antibiotics. Any attempt would be dangerous. You need to be looking (in a SHTF scenario) at hygeine, wound care, water safety, nutrition, and possibly herbal antimicrobials such as garlic, onion, thyme, oregano, and honey.

However, if you stockpile antibiotics, and store them correctly, the shelf life is much longer than the stated use by date. The US military did a study to look into the effectiveness of lots of drugs that are stored. They found that for pill based antibiotics, most but not all (eg cyclines) can be stored for 5+ years and still be fine.

Study was called the SLEP study - Shelf Life Extension Programme.

It’s all fine, Worzel has his thinking head on now!

I just thought ‘I wonder what we would do if we ran out?’ and nothing more.

I might go listen to something more soothing…

Honey is good, so is lavender oil. I remember watching that, the hero died from a wee scratch on his hand that got infected. I was gutted  :?
