Downloaded prep pantry lite from the app store to see if it's worth buying the full one. Will do a review soon.
Su that sounds really interesting. Is it just for ipads/iphones?
Designed for iPhone but I downloaded to iPad and it scanned the barcodes ok. The items I scanned we're not in the datatbase ( it is American) so it would take a little while to enter all my food stock. However, once done I would think it could be managed fairly easily. Also means the teenage kids are more likely to make changes to the data than they would if it was in a notepad. Not yet convinced if it is worth having so I'll see how I go.

Frustrating week on the prep front as its the end of the month/beginning of the month and I have £20 to last til friday....thankfully I walk to work and I have a cupboard full of food  Only useful thing I have done is realised I have a source of empty 5l bottles to store water in - they have been used for dishwasher liquid at work but with a good wash out and overnight soak the come up perfect, so I now have a source of 2 a week :D

Alleycat, you should only use the bottles for storage if they are food grade. I doubt as they are given that they were for washing up liquid. bettter off using old coke, lemonade bottles etc as they are food grade. Which reminds me I really need to do some water rotation.

This week I bought a couple of maglite torches and 20 x D size batteries from from ebay, also did a wood chop.

Yep got some 2l pop bottles for drinking but the 5l ones can be used for washing etc....until theres a major problem then I'll take me chances ;)

Started fermenting some sugar solution for the purposes of getting a high yield alcohol from it for distillation purposes so that I can make spirits for cooking, hot water and heating.
Using a "turbo" yeast.
It will be ready in seven days. Will do a second modification on my distiller to improve the efficiency too.
Am gonna by some calcium carbonate and vinegar so that once I have spirit that is high enough in strength, I can create a "flame gel" from it.

Hey Nd. Super interested in your fuel gel experiments, and have bought some 99% alcohol, calcium carb and and distilled vinegar ready for making some fuel when I have a day off. But just curious how much it costs you to do at home distillation and difficult it all is? I have a kilo of calcium carb which cost more in delivery than it did in price of product - but figure it will last for a while, distilled vinegar is cheap as chips, the alcohol is looking more expensive....but better deals are available if you buy larger quantities...so £7 a litre, or £25 for 5 litres etc..... any help much appreciated - I understand chemistry/sciencey stuff but anything tooo mathmatical/technical may go over my head a little. thanks in advance :)

But 4kg of chafing gel is only £33 delivered:

http://chafinggel.co.uk/shop/gen-heat-e ... -fuel-4kg/

And much less (circa £20) if you can get to a Macro and collect.

Methodologies:-
Task
No 1)
Experiment to get the technique up
No 2)
Experiment and research to get the cost down using cost accounting techniques as far as is possible.

Don't try Task 2) until you have understood Task 1)

When buying stuff retail = too pricy.

Wholesale is cheaper,

begged or blagged is even cheaper,

Maybe just buying tonnes in bulk from a "almost out of date" supplier might be even better.
