When me and the mrs moved in, the oil tank was already in situ close to the workshop but I believe that because it happened before planning laws came in (regulated distances) there was no problem. It is a bit of a problem though now as I want to put a bigger shed where it is and it should be moved realistically..... debated about putting round the other side of the house, wherever it does go, it still needs access for filling!
Maybe it is a slightly long term plan because of cost! But it is pretty integral to finishing off the rest of the garden!
Maybe it should come under my plans for a big lottery win!
I've just added another five litre bottle of water to my preps and was wondering about getting a water but instead.
This is going to sound really daft but I don't know the difference, Soooo... Is there a difference between the blue (supposed food grade) and the green buts that you see more often in the garden, which seem to be easier and chaper to purchase?
Are they actually made different, or would a bit of puri tabs or bleach make the water drinkable in the green ones?
Even if it come to the country using bottled water, would the green ones be ok to use if the contents were for washing/sanitary etc?
Thanks. I just keep looking at the bottles and it seems an awful lot, even though I know there isn't enough.
Finally did a test this morning with the hexi cooker and bits. Wife had gone to work, so did myself a nice 'All Day Breakfast' out in the back garden.
It's been a long time since I've cooked on a hexi, and forgot that it burns fiercely for ten mins and then dies! Managed to do breakfast in my mess tin, although the cheapo tin opener on my food utility penknife couldn't cut the can, despite piercing it.
Wind guard worked well and kept the draft off. And I forgot about the fumes!
A good test of my gear. Learnt I have to get a decent tin opener and to halve the hexi tablet if I want tea afterwards...
Great stuff AWR, I think we should all be testing out our preps on a semi-regular basis to find weaknesses in our preps so if we did need to use them 'in anger' we can be confident in them, and our abilities...

I have 2 of the green butts. I rinse and re-fill on a regular basis and the intent is to run the saved tap water through a slow sand filter and a water filter before use. As long as you keep up with the maintenance you should be fine. One thing I will add though is the lids aren't the best. You'll need to come up with a system to keep snails away.
just bought 4 sets of non-stick mess tins for b.o.b's from halfords cheapest I could find at £4.99 a set and included this code AFFCAM01 which gives 10% off camping stuff. Got the lot for just over £20
Just spent the last three days walking in the Peak District. I love it up there, and often go in January.
Managed to test my disposable hand warmers I got over Xmas. Gosh, they really do last for the seven hours don't they? Very impressed, considering they're so cheap, and they kept my hands warm in the minus temperatures...
Edit: I'm ordering the US Army P-38 and P-51 can openers. I saw them on YouTube and decided I need them!
