I get put off by getting covered in the black stuff, one of the few down sides of shooting a lot too  I chose being an electrician over mechanic career for several reasons one being the greasy black stuff, fumes, and not liking the cold also come into play, I hate getting sticky too  drives me up the wall if i get a trolley at a supermarket that's just had a kid in ti troffing sweets and making the handle all ewwwww.

She also got a parrafin heater which is brand new never been used and another burner which runs in a wick which would be great for simmering/slow cooking, so yeah a stock of parrafin is on the cards, but I can't get enthusiastic about it
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I've been sorting out the garden and veg plots ready for this years growing attempts. Stocked up on seeds and planted some spuds. Not very exciting but necessary!

I think it is exciting. A very optimistic time of year. Today, ( after getting my fishing gear ready for tomorrow's adventure!) I will be in the greenhouse pricking out chilli plants. Looks like I have to step up production this year. Last night my wife did a selection of curries , meat and vegetarian and it took 25 chillies! The girls and their chaps wolfed the lot! So there's only one box of chillies left in the freezer now. It'll be the dried ones then.

When the greenhouse is straight I shall split more wood for the stove and saw up the oak panelling my builder friend dropped off. Non stop Mardi - Gras here at Chez Jansman

Nothing wrong with that, personally, the whole being as self sufficient as possible is a big part of prepping for me. Prepping is such a 'catch all' title it can be interpreted to mean different things to different people, having the knowledge (in this instance more the missus) is a huge prep. Toys are great and as a boy I like my shiny shiny but from a practical point, its the mundane stuff that is probably the most useful. Let us know how you get on with the garden, some of us suffer from allotment envy.

Speaking of which, I was dragged up there on friday to do some fence work and turning over, that's probably my biggest prep this week, I've been a bit lazy on the prepping front, just a few purchases but nothing to shout about.

I would have liked to be on the river,as its the last week of the season.Unfortunately its not possible as the river is banging through like the Mississippi! So its a local commercial lake.Last time I went there a month ago I had well over a 100 Bream and Roach. Also a bonus Tench of about 3lb. Tench in February? Global warming if you like!

Also the chance of a Carp or two. Great fun :D on a 5 metre margin pole! :D perfect antidote to three funerals in two weeks.

Good to hear about mate, thank you. Tench this early ? Wow, good sport on the pole ! Sorry to hear about the funerals though, I myself no longer go on Facebook as I have got to that age when every week is another contemporary hors de combat.

Even so, trout season coming up, get the fly rod out...god save Izaak Walton :D

Ha ha! Trout ain't my bag.It used to be,but its a bit rich for my blood these days.Nearest I get to that is lure fishing ( surface lures)in the Summer and Autumn for Pike.Explosive sport! Frankly,I will fish for anything given half a chance.

Always think of Thin Lizzie at this point,"Some men like the fishin',some men like the fowlin',some men like to hear a cannon ball a roarin'." Every man has his passion.
