Somebody on here will know I expect, but I have a lot of it - and although I rotate stock, with only the 2 of us here we dont go through tons. I've had it for 5 years and its still fine. I buy from Costco.
Flour I buy in 3k bags, aim for around 10 bags in stock at any given time. Pop into the freezer (inside a polybag) for a couple of days, then in the spare room which is kept cool and airy. I don't buy flour in bulk as its more mess and bother than its worth, is easier this way.
Lentils barley and any veg, plus stock cubes which I buy tons of as well, make good soup. Oatmeal makes oatcakes, flapjacks, crumble topping and porridge - and I make my own bread. I think that's enough to sustain life in an emergency
Can I come for me tea?

Had a great day yesterday, OH & I took a chunk out of the lawn and made a new veg bed. Laid all the turf neatly in the hen run and today we teaching them to play bowls

 that sounds good lil.

We had 2 new hens arrive yesterday. Point of lay, an Easter pressie from my mum. We have a Blue Ranger and a Sussex Star, about 17 weeks old. Our old hens are not happy!

Cleaned and bleach sprayed the insides of the food cupboards to kill off any bacteria, molds, spores and fungus that might have accumulated in the winter to keep infections out of and away from dry goods.

How long does dried veg, barley and flour last for and is there any particular way I should store it?

Paul
Lentils, dry beans etc can last 2 years so long as you are careful, I don't trust rice for more then a year, but it is supposed to last longer depending on type, variety and the like.
Dried veg..... Ideally vacuum pack it and add oxygen absorbers, possibly in kilner jars. make sure its cleaned and dry before packing. But I don't tend to keep dried fruits and veg around for more then a couple of months, and I usually dry it to use up less storage space. Usually dry or can stuff that i would freeze if I had a freezer.

Planted three apple trees over the weekend (Morrisons have them on for about £13 each by the way) and ordered some hazelnut trees.

Planted cabbages, sunflowers and shallots in heated trays in a sunny window ledge.

Just spent the last three days having some fun, me and a few buddies went on shoot in berkshire, got to train a bit with my gundogs, and put about 60 shots through my shotgun, definitely good training or hunting if the shtf.

Yip its growing and planting for me too - more allotment stuff for me this weekend! Must get some empty containers to store rain water in. I don't wnat to pay out for them so I will look for old containers from places like garages and look on the free cycle pages.
