Nice work. I was of the thinking that starting with a something simple and gassless would be best, but maybe that's not so then.

Always the way with Sunday jobs, reminds me of the time I cut the stop tap off - it looked like half inch pipe, but was something called "twenty thread"; no plumbers merchants open to get an adaptor, after a lot of head scratching I ended up reaming out an old compression fitting and sweating it on. It's still solid; satisfying when the improvisation works out.

Gas less needs a bit of heat making to boil the flux not the best for thin stuff the steel melts before before the flux bubbles

Was looking at the weather forecast for the days ahead. Met says Monday 16°/6°. I got thinking, is the 6° the minimum for all day Monday (midnight to midnight) or all 'Monday night', which is really Tuesday morning? The coldest is usually about 2am to 6am. Obviously you can look at the hourly forecast if its only a few days away.
I needed to find a day with a clear difference.
Well the Met office 'Monday' 6° clearly applies to all 'Monday night', i.e. TUESDAY morning, as the minumum for Monday morning on the hourly forecast is 12°.
I don't know if all websites use the same convention.
I want to see if the new heating system kicks in for the first time.

Bought another set of fleecy pjs while Lidl still has my size so I now have two pairs to keep in rotation over the winter. Lidl also has thermos flasks in so I picked up one of those too.

It looks like I have tyre issues so a visit to the garage is on the horizon. I considered booking it online tonight, but I've had a fair slug of pink wine this evening so making expensive car decisions should wait till I'm properly sober

At my service in the summer, they said I had damage on my rear tyres - not enough to fail an MOT, but definite damage. Now I think something has happened to one of the front tyres - bulge at the rim I think. The tyre pressure light thing came on this week and won't go off even though I've topped up air. There is no reset light button at all (scoured the manual) so it's a trip to the garage anyway. I do quite a lot of miles so I get that tyres are basically a consumable. But ruddy heck it gets expensive!

On the run upto winter if your piling on the miles go for all season tyres they offer more grip in bad weather... Not as good as full on winter tyres but rarely do we get biblical snow unless you live in the hills...
.they cost no more usually than the equivalent standard tyres...

Getting spares and fuel for my two Tilley lamps, ready for the possible upcoming power cuts. Looking at getting a usb rechargeable head torch too.

Bulk buying some staples like flour, pasta and rice, in case of shortages things that can be cooked on a camping style stove.

You can get rechargeable ones that also take AAAs. Petzl do at least one. You might have to buy the rechargeable battery separately. eg https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/zip ... -headlamp/
But of course you can just buy rechargeable AAAs (and a charger), that's what I have. Mine is a Black Diamond Storm 375. Uses 4 AAAs.
Shouldn't really leave alkaline batteries in devices anyway. NiMH batteries should be charged once a year even if not used.
I think the appeal of the Petzl is that climbers don't need to carry a charger, they can just plug it in, in a hut.
