Have been stocking up on rechargeable batteries for the last few months, plenty of lanterns in addition to the ones we use for camping and rediscovered an additional power bank which Amazon replaced after I received a refund a couple of years ago stuck in a drawer. We have some of those USB bulbs too which we used for camping but bought additional ones to use in the house. Daughter and husband have been instructed to pick up extra OTC meds if they "nip to the shops". Work have very kindly provided me with a basic first aid kit for my car which will be kept in addition to the ones I already have in there.Still working on home security, husband and daughter have now got the "lock the back gate and lock the back door" drill so that I don't nag them but we still need to install the camera at the back of the house, a gate to the drive and I am not overly happy with the Upvc back door and feel that it needs to be replaced with composite. Realised today that I have been prepping for almost 6 years, still lots to do and not where I want to be but very appreciative of all of you folk on here and your advice :D

Cleared the decks outside, in case we get high winds. Not really a lot to blow around, just stuff that needed tidying away like old bedding plants.

Another load of stuff fetched from the freeze dryers. All of the apple crop is now completely done, we'll have fresh fruit for a while now.

The store room has been tidied up a bit, with stuff that I'm likely to need sooner at the front now. Mainly it's lights and torches, and a gas hob, ready for any power cuts. There's a huge tree next to the power line pole,if it came down, it'd cause some problems.

Rather alarmed that my gas use on Monday was as much as Saturday and Sunday combined. Weather was about the same. Thermostat was set the same. In fact it runs longer at the weekend. Phoned up edf - they couldnt see high useage during the day on Monday, but they see different units, could be the meter readings. So I'll have to see if the app corrects itself. I think it's wrong. I have turned the heating down 0.5° during the day anyway. I can't see the hourly breakdown for Monday yet. I do have the graph from my Govee thermometer, and that looks as it should. In Home Display shows high use Monday and Tuesday. App doesn't show Tuesday yet.

Is that the EDF app? Monday was darned cold here. Have you or your lodgers left an oven on or had a sneaky burst of use of a usually unused gas fire?? As average room temp drops close to the stat setting, you can find it goes from a mostly off state to mostly on and it makes a big difference.

Incidentally, I've noticed that the start and end of the day on the smart meter is not midnight and differs between gas and electricity. Electricity about 10pm. Gas. god knows when.... EDF

What's your idea of normal use? I have electricity at about £7 per day and gas about £4. But gas has recently leapt from about £1 to as much as £5. The last few cold days have seen the boiler running MUCH more than recent weeks average and I have the room stat quite low.
Graceful Degradation! Prepping's objective summed up in two words. Turning Disaster into Mild Inconvenience by the power of fore-thought

Like I say, weather was the same Sat, Sun and Mon. If anything, use should be higher at weekend as the heating's set to run longer, eg the early am higher temp runs an hour longer, evening runs later.
We have no gas fires and only the hob is gas, and I don't think it's been used since the weekend.
On Saturday it was £1.65 and Sunday £1.73. Then on Monday it jumps to £3.14. This is what I'd expect on a bad day in Dec-Feb. It makes no sense. Tuesday's looks high as well, about the same, according to the IHD. Worst day in Feb was only £3.25 and I'm still on the same price per unit. It was 77 kWh, Monday was 74. See what I mean? Feb was probably both lodgers working from home, heating on.
I find it had to believe we used this. One lodger went away on Monday morning and isn't back til later today. The other worked from home on Monday, but he never uses gas apart from a quick shower. Our daily use in Sept was 50p a day and that includes showers.
I've taken a meter reading, gonna check the IHD later today, and will see what the app shows tomorrow. I know how to convert the meter readings to kWh and £.

Spoke to them again via web chat. They told me to do a hard reset on the device and wait 24 hours. Also that the Hub/app work off the IHD. So, fingers crossed....

Remember when utility companies and supermarkets worked for you?

Self checkouts, self readings and the prices still go up.

Hope the reset resolves your problems.

Apparently I did actually use that much gas for a few days this time last year, so maybe it is right. It was colder then, but I've had it coming on earlier recently. Had a chat with lodgers, and I only need it on this early 2 days a week, so tweeked my settings. Will see if the reset changes anything, but starting to think it won't.
