Following the thread about food for a BOB I just went to tescos and bought some boil in the bag rice, some packets of rice and mixed veg, 2 packets of Smash :D, and a small packet of barley mixture/pulses etc to liven things up a bit. That will reuce the weight of food in the bag a fair bit.

Well actually, I've decided I might win the lottery this week and so my preps consist of floating around estate agents sites looking at houses for sale in the Western Isles
...while eating chocolate

CC, does the barley/pulse packet need soaking overnight? Would that pose a problem?

I've been out of net circulation for a few weeks, but just though i'd visit to say Hello, and that I managed to get extra water put away during the last week. I'm feeling more comfortable now I'm getting a decent stock built up.

I also fell lucky with baked beans at a co op when they had a bargain on the baked beans at two for the price of one (on the four packs). Sixteen tins were in my trolley straight away (all they had left for the promotion). When the assistant at the till mentioned that I'd got a lot... I just laughed and said that camping with kids in the near future needs to be easy. Her attitude then changed and she relaxed, said I was braver than her taking kids camping and scanned them through.

Am I being suspicious here, or do thay actually check on what we buy? I decided to pay by cash so that my details weren't registered. I must be getting paranoid!

Oh, I also bought 800 tea bags over a few days from various places! :D

No, they don't check it's just that individual till operators are bored and any point of interest helps pass a shift.

Ok then, I'll let her off and carry on hunting for those bargains. Wouldn't want to stop the lass' enjoyment.

Damkina - I just go to Tesco and load my trolley up and don't even think about it. I'm honestly of the opinion that you haven't got anything at all to worry about. I genuinely do not believe that ANYBODY is at all bothered about Mr and Mrs Average going about their business and buying a few extra tins/packets/boxes of candles. I think that TPTB or whoever it is that some people think has got us under surveillance (I would actually be intrigued to find out just who/what is that IS supposedly watching us... :tinfoil ) have probably got much bigger fish to fry.

And I also use a clubard...

just been down to aldi and farmfoods at the moment tined food from there is a bargain-
four tins for round about a pound-toms,beans,carrots,peas,potatoes, rice an pasta is still fairly cheap and the date on most is 2013, and a couple of bags of demera sugar.
i find tescos a bit expensive.

I've done quite a bit of shopping around lately, and yes spog also been to aldi and got some really inexpensive tins and packets with good dates on the. I'm definitely going back.

As well as a BOB I've bought some 35 litre RUBs (Really Useful Boxes), clear with the blue clip handles and sorting out my stock around the house.
