Re the relative merits of jeans ... we need to remember that jeans material was first used in the "Wild West" because it was such a strong fabric and could be worn for weeks on end without wearing out or looking too bad and that's why it's become so popular. What we forget though is that the people who wore them (eg, cowboys) rarely saw rain and it wasn't so cold in the cattle moving season. They're not great in rain - they're heavy, difficult to move in and murder to dry. Great for Texas, not so great for Scotland :). I've upped our trips to outdoor shops (GoOutdoors, Mountain Warehouse, Blacks, etc). I've not seen a single pair of jeans in them and that doesn't surprise me at all. Love my jeans, but I won't be packing them in any BOB and, having bought a pair of Diesel jeans at a ridiculous price for my husband that weren't all that, I won't be paying the money for Levis either. I might, in the meantime, try to nick my daughter's Levi jacket ;), for fashion, you understand, definitely not for survival.

Exactly Feisty. Many a case of hypothermia has been attributed to the wearing of jeans in the british countryside. They're also very uncomfortable when wet and cause chafing to the skin.
Still wanting Levis now though. For normal everyday wear of course.
