don't worry Nick, those "gangsta" types you refer to wont last long, the violence will be just a short part of the initial die off, the types that kill and thief for food know nothing about countryside, wildlife, or farming and they will not survive once the cities become bare of any food supplies.probably kill each other off for the last remaining scraps and cups of water.until that happens they will feed off the foolish and the unprepared and those unable to protect what they have.

Have to disagree. I think if I was a smart, violent gangsta I would take myself and henchman to a remote hamlet, terrorise the locals and rule over them whilst exacting 'taxes' in the form of food, shelter etc whilst sustaining an easy life for me

not sure how efficient they are, ever had one as I believe that even during SHTF it's safer not to have a gun. SHTF will end up sooner or later, and people will be punished for their crimes, and self defence for some silly reason is a crime in many countries of Europe

have you ever been to a remote hamlet? finding them is the first problem, not all of them are on maps, that's why they are remote.

Wow.... Lots of good debate. I am glad I posted.

Yes there are going to be groupings of people. In that you will have bad people exploiting the sheep.

I just wanted to point out the a firearm is not the be and end all in terms of prepping.

I have intentionally strayed away from offering up alternatives. I do not want to be accused of encouraging violence.

What I will say however is, there are indeed quieter, cheaper, easier to maintain and just as effective alternatives. Those alternatives also offer greater utility across the myriad of needs of a prepped in a survival situation.

Remember I post my opinions on what works for me, my way is not the only way. As a former warfighter, I don't see a need for a firearm. I can manage without. I am not going to fight a war. If a fight does come to me I can manage without firearms. If something big comes along I intend to have like minded people around me to even the odds. Yes I do firmly believe in conflict avoidance. It just makes sense to me. Yet being of that mindset does not mean I have become a sheep. More like a hibernating bear. Kick the bear and your in a world of hurt.

I hope this makes a little sense.

Please keep the debate going. That is how we all learn and refine our plans. Very good indeed.

unlike some of the conversations on American forums around guns, here in the UK we wont be getting into armed conflict or "firefights" where we expel great numbers of ammo, that's for the movies, and anyway if you do your doing it wrong, the way to be post SHTF is quiet and sneaky.
