Out of interest, where would the fall out areas be? How big would it be?

Meteorologists correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the majority of our weather blows, east from the atlantic across the country and up the channel and northwest up the country from europe/the Mediterranean. And im guessing there would be multiple strikes up the country the fallout would be carried everywhere... maybe some of wales and very northern scotland would be a bit less glowy?
Half educated guess there, please correct me if im wrong, I live in essex so PLEASE correct me if im wrong :P

Prevailing wind
The prevailing wind is the most frequent wind direction a location experiences. In Britain the prevailing wind is from the south west, which brings warm, moist air from the Atlantic Ocean. This contributes to the frequent rainfall.

The British Isles lie at the convergence zone between the warm southwest antitrades and the cold polar easterlies. Convergence of warm and cold air masses at this latitude produces cyclonic low pressure and the development of rain-bearing depressions, whish sweep across the Atlantic to influence the British climate. The prevailing winds are the mild southwesterlies, but for much of the time, the British Isles are influenced by polar air masses with a northwesterly or northerly airflow, that bring with them colder showery weather. http://www.enviropedia.org.uk/Climate/P ... _Winds.php Fallout would depend on the wind direction and a ground burst as an air burst would not necessarily produce fallout

Le Mouse I couldn't tell you how my dad worked it out I was about 9 or10 at the time and he is sadly no longer with us for me to ask. He worked on some really big projects in his day though so I think he looked at likely targets and calculated wind and blast zones. I know he would look carefully at nuclear power stations and tried to make sure we were not in the fall out zone of any of them, I can remember a couple of times when we moved and he would not think of an area because of the wind directions and where the power stations were.
