Glad it's looking up bettersafethansorry. I too was in the same situation a couple of years ago, I had just enough saving to pay the mortgage and the essential bills each month but used my food/toiletries stock to live on so all the available money could go on the mortgage. I love rice and practically live on it anyway so I didn't really notice that much difference food-wise! I have lots of herbs and spices stocked including dried onion and garlic - which form the basis of most of my dishes. For me, when I was suddenly at home all day, the big item that disappeared a zillion times more quickly than I was expecting was toilet roll! I now have about a year's supply in the bathroom attic and start to panic when I'm down to my last 6 packs of 24...!

Entertainment is really important when you're down and stuck in the house all day because you can't afford to go out anywhere. One of the reasons I always buy films/TV programmes/music rather than rent them is so that I still have access to them when the s*it hits the fan. I also have them ripped and on an entertainment system that can by powered by a 12v leisure battery charged by solar panels if I really want to decrease the leccy bill, or the electricity disappears...
