You could probably get a plug to go on the power cable to use it from a cigarette lighter socket rather than the battery direct, they are maximum 4watts output for UK legal though.

Unless you happen to accidently run the antenna through a "burner", they are illegal to use, but not to own, and I guess in an emergency they might let you off ;)

it has weird connectors on the wires... red one is a normal bit of wire, black on has like a pinscer on the end of it?

That sounds like the plug has been taken off, the pincer thing, is the wire soldered in the bottom of the "U" shape ?

That is the earth that touches the sides of the socket.

nope, is connected to the wire through a rubber connector, alot like the ones you get in a car cd player

Never seen the conectors for a CD player :lol:

I would go to somewhere like a motor accesory shop and get a fused plug though, much easier for being in and out of one vehicle to another.

Are you mounting your CB in your car hobo? I'm buying a 13.8v-regulated-mains-power-unit, which means i can plug it into the mains, or car depending on what i fancy! not really wanting to leave it in my car all the time.... :|

It boosts the power through the antenna.

Go on then, they aren't very subtle though.

I was thinking of setting up a rig in my shed, I hope a car arial will be OK for that.
