With this in mind saying I dont have a nuke bunker in my 2 bed terrace

whats options do i have to prepare...

Whats the likely hood we will be in a blast zone or fall out zone?
Do the over counter radiation treatments work? (or would these just delay the inevitable)

Bar the usual food and supplies i really need to start thinking about home defense... strength in numbers.... communications.... etc.... Any help, ideas, links would be great.

I can only speak for myself, but I have had an ever increasing feeling that something is gonna happen. And before anyone asks, no I have no data to quote or quirky internet news sites to link to. Its just .... A feeling.

So maybe it is natural for preppers to feel this from time to time. I don't really know.

I do think that if we did get into a fight with the Russians, we here would get taken early on. Russian fighter planes have (apperantly) been spotted circling Shetland within the last year or two.

If WW3 did kick off you make the assumption it will be nuclear. I don't think it would be, but if it is you need to plan for that. I'm not sure how home defence, safety in numbers and comms would help.

If in a fallout zone, I'm sure there are plenty of sites online with guides to trying to survive that.

If its 'conventional warfare' then it all boils down to where the war is being fought. If abroad, then I can't see hoards of refugees trying to nick your preps. At least, not early on in the conflict. If here on UK soil, then that could be a problem. Evacuated population, fleeing refugees, opportunists etc could become an issue.
Then, some sort of local group could be set up to try an ensure the refugees don't rob you all blind.

In short, I have no useful advice. But , you are not alone in having that 'feeling' :tinfoil

A few quick random thoughts.

1 There are nuclear loose cannons and world leaders of dubious competence so the world is volatile.
2 People always focus on the Tsar Bomba and looks at the biggest bombs. The vast majority of nuclear weapons today are under 600kton. Accuracy beats bomb power. the big bombs were made because the missiles could not guarantee to it within 1 mile of target in the 60s
3 Even modest protection helps with fallout so it is worth while assuming you want to stay alive in a post attack world
4 Agree that low level warfare could come first. so massive cyber attacks to disrupt economy / banking which could lead to shortages and other problems. Also infrastructure attacks that could lead to loss of power / gas / water supplies

My son is doing GCSE history at present and he is a serious lad. He commented that the current world situation is very like the years prior to the first world war. EG Protectionist US president with risk of trade wars, unstable small countries with others vying for influence. So I think to have a worried feeling is right. Remember the Cuban missile crisis developed over a few days. UK civil defence planning had assumed a crisis warning period of 2- 4 weeks post cuba it was cut to 2-3 days.

IF (and a very big IF) any nuclear thing happened, I imagine it would be a backpack bomb - somebody in a rogue state (Iran, N/Korea etc) giving a nice chap with a long beard and a tan something explosive which would fit in a backpack. I imagine that there are some form of detectors (I really hope there are) at airports and ports, so more likely they would bring it in via a small boat over the channel from france (something small, quick). Then its just a question of catching a train into London, and kaboom.

They hit London, they hit the west, and the whole world goes into meltdown (economic and political). Lots of beardy men dancing in streets.

It is a standard reconnaissance method called probing and it is done by everyone, us and them. It only makes the news when there is nothing else going on and they need some excitement.

It happens two or three times each week.

It is a test of reaction time and strength. It has to be done now and then to see what is up and what is new.

Hmmmm - I sort of agree. Except so far this year, you could not say that there is nothing else going on. Its been pretty busy out there.
I agree that it does happen every so often, but with everything else that is going on, there is a time for probing and checking by Russia, and there are times when Russia should go 'nah, lets leave if for now - its getting a little crazy out there'

Remember that theres a massive NATO troop buildup in the baltic states,i.e; Russias border, with a permanent UK commitment of battlegroup/ near brigade strength.

Thats a big provocation to Russia when they have ZERO interest in getting landed with the baltic states again. They have enough trouble internally, to the south and east. It serves no honest purpose.

If I was in Putins shoes, I would be probing to asses the threat level. Fair enough really.
