I'd eat whatever, too. You'd have to. I'd probably be very ill for the first couple of times of eating meat though, not having touched the stuff for over 20 years.
What was I reading the other day? Oh yes - if you're going to eat worms, slugs, snails and the like in a shtf situation, you need to starve them for two or three days to get the dirt core out of their digestive system. It recommended drying worms out in the sun before adding them to a stew/soup.
Same with fish - keep them in clean water for a couple of days to get the grot out of them.
I would have to be really desperate before I looked at a slug, though ..... (insert puking smiley here!!)

I love meat and pig is probably my favourite. From bacon to gammon and everything in between.
Having said that, if I had to kill my own food I would definately be a veggie.
Humans are not actually carnivores. We are not designed that way. We have just chosen to become meat eaters over a period of time.
Meat-eaters: have claws
Herbivores: no claws
Humans: no claws
Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue
Herbivores: perspire through skin pores
Humans: perspire through skin pores
Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding
Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly
Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat
Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.
Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits
Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits
Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Those are just a few but there are many more.
I read somewhere that some Americans have as much as 20 pounds of undigested red meat in their colon. Yummy, what's for tea.

Designed or evolved ?
If you look at chimps which are one of our closest relatives, they will happily eat a banana just as they will happily hunt and eat another monkey ......so maybe it's an ape thing
I guess being flexible is one of the things that helped us reach the top of the food chain

I love stuff like this, a poke in the eye for rabid meat-eaters lol!

Re: many other vegans here?
It`s such an emotive subject, isn`t it? However, comments like the above should be slammed just as quickly, imo, as those from us `rabid meat eaters` in arguments for the other side, so to speak.love stuff like this, a poke in the eye for rabid meat-eaters lol!
Re: the undigested red meat in the colon - how glad am I that I'm vegan?!!
There`s a tendancy for vegans and vegetarians to view any meat eater as someone who eats it excessively. Whilst this is certainly true for some, most of us, myself included, cannot afford to eat meat every day, and are more than aware of the sedentary lifestyle we lead today compared to our ancestors. Therefore we are also more than aware that eating meat sparingly, and being sensible enough to work it off in whatever way we do (whether that is work, excercise for sport or leisure, etc) is one of the easiest ways to obtain certain nutrients, proteins and iron.
Like it or not, I`ve yet to meet a vegan who will discuss rationally what, exactly, humanity will do with all the animals should the world become vegan overnight.
Or answer how, exactly, folks living in a temporate or cold climate are supposed to grow enough nutrient suitable vegetarian or vegan food to feed their population without having to import it across many miles, increasing their carbon footprint.
Or does none of that matter, so long as they can say "We have no objection to you guys eating it so long as it`s done to our satisfaction" whilst giving out a superior, holier than thou attitude.
Really, this is one of the matters that puts me off joining any online group, since the moment I raise a pro-omnivore voice I`m treated like a dinosaur or, in some cases, a murderer!
I agree with what others have said..in a disaster or shit hits the fan scenario, everyone will be more than happy to eat what the hell they can get their hands on. That includes meat. Those that say they won`t, well, wait and see what happens when genuine hunger gnaws your innards.
Re: many other vegans here?
You`d probably surprise yourself. I have raised, killed and butchered my own meat most of my life. I no longer breed goats and sheep or pigs but do keep hens and will eat those that no longer lay. I also kill and prep wild meat. So long as you know enough to kill as quickly and efficiently as possibly, you`d do it, with hunger driving you.Having said that, if I had to kill my own food I would definately be a veggie.
If anyone wants, I can always do an wee piece on killing, skinning and butchering?
