You have my sympathy CardiffGuy, I've suffered from Raynauds for many years. At times it can be a nuisance, and at times rather painful, especially when the fingers and toes have gone completely white and all feeling has been lost. It can also be quite painful when you're thawing them out and the feeling is just returning.
One technique I've employed over the years is, just before I go out on a particularly cold day I'll fill the sink with quite hot water and soak my hands in it for a few minutes (ignore the fact they'll probably turn a great shade of purple!). Then they'll usually stay OK for the next couple of hours despite the cold.
What about feet I hear you say; well I've tried "Heat Holders" 2.3 tog thermal socks, they are slightly better than ordinary socks but still nowhere near good enough. "Sub-Zero Clothing" sell Baffin Boot wellies, but at £180 a pair I just continue to wear my ex Merchant Navy sea boot socks and allow my feet to become blocks of ice!!!!

Two of my daughters have Raynaud's, even in summer they will often wear gloves to stop their fingers turning purple and white. Panther, are you sure it's ok to do that with hot water? :?: I only really know about frostbite (don't ask me how!) but with that, it can be dangerous to do such a thing, wondering if it's the same for Raynaud's.

Yes, you're absolutely right Red Doe, the "experts" warn against bringing back circulation in such a way. I usually do this before going out, as a preventative. It's no different to putting your hands in a bowl of hot water to do the washing up.
If ever I need to thaw out and revive my hands I only use warm water and do it gradually. I've gotten away with it so far; nothings dropped off yet!! ;)

Ah right, sorry Panther, had visions of you plunging your hands into steaming hot water!
My daughter can't actually feel the temperature of hot water when her Raynaud's is acting up, which is why I asked. Poor bugger is often in pain in her hands and feet when she 'thaws' out.

Ouch! That really would hurt!!
Yes it is, as you say, a painful process thawing hands and feet out. It's just one of those things you learn to live with though (amongst all the others!) :)
