Lone wolf; "Where there is no dentist" is an OK book as a reference. Free as a download from Hesperian Foundation. Some other good ones there two on various third world medicine topics.

I got an infection after some root canal work. I though the hour spent sitting in the chair was bad enough but I was in for a very unpleasant surprise.

It would come on suddenly and drop me to my knees. Nothing else in the world mattered - only the agony gripping the side of my head. Would last about 5 minutes and go, to be back in an hour or two. I'd be told to expect 'some discomfort' so I left it over the weekend. Hellish.

Dentist prescribed me some antibiotics and some pain killers that dulled it a bit. The infection cleared and all is good. I suspect that if that had been in a world with out dentists/drugs then I'd have willingly found myself on the wrong end of a pair of pliers. :o

That's why I've never been worried about going to the dentist, Because toothache is worse  I get trig neuralgia quite often down the side of my head and thats the same kind of pain SP. Like lightning hitting the side of your head . Hellish.

Ahhh,he is lovely.Well done diamond lil for helping him out. :D
Ive got a stray at the moment,I nicked him from my work place, ,been agonising over him for a long time.Another kind lady had taken to feeding him,but one day I couldn't stand it any longer. It was freezing and his eyes were weepy and he seemed unwell. So,I managed to capture him and am slowly nursing him back to health. His eyes have all but cleared up,his warm and fed,and I have managed to get him to use his litter tray(no mean feat! )
His been wormed, bathed and he has had a few antibiotics that I had left over from my other cats last vet visit.
