The bottle does seem to be the weak item but the cork can be wrapped in clingfilm to make it a better fit and only use it for the minimum time necessary.

I still use the bottle but just for water so if it does spill it won't be a big problem (compared to any fuel or coffee/tea, etc.).

I'm currently trying to stock up on paraffin heaters, lamps, stoves and then the paraffin itself, mantles and spares (washers, etc.). I've got my eye on a couple of these. So that would sort out my alternative lighting and heating problem. I also have some wind up/solar led lanterns and torches but that's just for lighting.
Anyone know the best place to buy bigger quantities of paraffin? I think b&q has it in 4l containers for around £6?

Check local garages to see if they have it on the pumps, £6 for 4ltrs is expensive, I think I paid about 80p (ish) per ltr from the pump, so I filled a couple of 20ltr Jerry cans last time, some garages also do Red diesel which is usable in anything not a "Road vehicle" such as generators, and is around half the price of regular diesel if you are lucky.

I picked one up a few years back to use with the huge stash of Hexamine fuel I have amassed.
Yes, I have 2. The bottles are not that good but the rest is fantastic - you can fire it with anything and boiles water in the cup in a couple minutes. Love it.
Does it also work as a wood gas stove?

Probably not, but does a wood gas stove work well with Hexi blocks?

I have hundreds of the things, so don't need a wood gas stove just yet, but I can also add twigs and bits of wood to it as well, Horses for courses though, use what you are comfy with. ;)

I have never used hexamine in a wood gas stove, but if hexamine burns smokeless, then I doubt that you would get the wood gas flame reaction (as per proper wood gas combustion and flames at secondary air intake holes) unless a lot of carbon monoxide and other flammable gasses are produced by the combustion.

You might just get a standard hexy reaction

Well I guess I'll have to have a try at one of these wood gas stoves sometime, can't be difficult to make one.

Making them is a piece of p@ss.
the larger tin cans (one gallon) are better for wood, regular food tins are better for wood pellets.
http://www.youtube.com/user/greenwetdream (my first video blog on this subject) has some videos on them.

You can put anything in it really - hexi blocks, oil burner, twigs/paper....
