Weird initially but think about it. Sugar is great for making things more bearable to eat / drink, great energy supply and can be mixed in with water, salt and fruits to make a good hydration drink. Salt and Sugar are both on my list to fill a storage bucket with. Also, if worst comes to the worst, they are things that will be in demand and can be used for bartering.coulesy wrote:Really i get the Fuel and bog roll but sugar

I have a very odd, but delightful American friend who uses this method for tanning hides. No chemicals , not even salt is required. Although he did say it's whiffy!

He makes his own Buckskin clothing.

Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
I guess i have two plans in place in my head anyway!
If im at work then my plan would be to head straight to the petrol garage and make sure im filled up. (I share custody of my dogs with my ex who lives in Kent) If its my turn to have the dogs then i would head next to the supermarket and grab what I can.. then head on home, batten down the hatches, contact friends and family and get them on the move to join up at my place. Ive instructed my mother she is to get in to her car with as many usefull things as she can grab (tins. dried food, water, duvet, clothing, weaponry etc) and head to mine, stopping for no-one!
If i dont have my dogs then i would head to my ex in Kent and get them, they are safer from hungry ppl where i live than they are at her place! Not that she would want to give them up
This would probably take a good 3 hours to complete and use up fuel, so would attempt to fill up again on way home. Get Home and await the others arrival.
On both accounts I would try and speak to neighbours and get a sense of how things might pan out with them, which houses are likely to be empty with them leaving etc.
How long we would have from when the SHTF till people reacted I guess would be the issue... possibly we would get a few days of crazy but not out of control in order to get organised?

It would be a wee bit better and easier if you had some jerrycans of petrol in the house or shed and if you had a stash of food. Cos the whole world and his dog will be doing exactly the same as you. Petrol stations will be queued to hell as will supermarkets. Roads gridlocked. Mobile phone networks might be down or jammed ...
just sayin!

Agree with lil, stash the fuel now. If you can when shtf then fill up but don't rely on it!

Hmm! Confirm reports! Drive to garage and fill up! Go home fill up bath and containers! Secure house and out buildings! Become a fatty form gorging on perishable foods! Keep my ear to the news! Strap a carving knife to a broom handle! And wait!

Boot fairs are good for them just make sure you check for holes and interior rust, new they're about £20 whereas I got two for a tenner at the booty last weekend. On has subsequently turned out to be crap but the other is 'as new' so still worth it.
