I have to say, I'm with The Gnole on the issues of being an outsider if there are serious shtf problems - plus, that region in particular has been stamped on and invaded over by countless armies and population waves for hundreds of years. Never mind the recent tensions nearby after the breakup of Yugoslavia, or the Second World War - before that there was the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, and the invasion of Europe by the Ottomans in the 1680s.
