I can definitely recommend this, had a couple of issues when i was at university and they came round, did a full assessment and left us (and our landlords) with a whole heap of advice including recommended suppliers and trusted installers...

with regards to boarding up windows and doors , i think..... and i might be wrong , but the boards only make your home stand out in a situation where you might be better off blending in . head down and try not to be noticed .

I agree with you, soutie - I think its much more common in areas of the US, say, where hurricanes are regular and those boards are quite normal. I wish we had the shutters that the French have - sort of metal roller blinds on the *outside* of the building, they're whats normal over there.

I work as a locksmith and have been to many breakins over the year of course during peace time most scum dont want to smash glass and attract noise to them selfs
Unfortunately shutters grills are expensive and theirs always the problem of making your property look attractive
During peace time shutters alarms cameras ect do put a lot of scum off but who's going to care if they are filmed in a shtf scenario
Some unobtrusive things to do are grow holly or other spikey plants under windows big dog signs high gates fences with trellis on top
End of the day make it look like there's nothing worth going to your property for and over the rd looks like a one stop shop
