If trying to be nice to them so as to settle them in quickly is the socialist problem you see in us then I suggest you check our position on the map. We are an island...manning our borders is nigh on impossible except through ports of entry. We are also the end of the rainbow. Best to make friends except when the friendship proves unfriendly.
It's good that you like Americans.
We tend to like Brits ;)
That being said, understand what I meant in what I said.

Our criticism of you Brits isn't so much in the whole immigration thing, you guys aren't the only ones fighting the influx of immigrants who refuse to assimilate into their new society. The Russians, French, Germans, Swedes and some others are all fighting that battle along with you.

The main problem American conservatives have with your style of governance is the expectation many Brits have of cradle to grave care by the State. We don't see that as a proper role of government, and I would hope that by being on a prep website, even a Brit prep site, that many of you would share that sentiment. Such a pervasive level of government is unsustainable in the long term.

We Americans look at things like some of your gov't programs, British laws that we read about, etc, and have to just shake our heads. Don't get me wrong....there are many Americans who would love to see some of your laws replicated here. We try to tell such folks that if they want those kinds of laws, they should move to where those laws currently exist rather than forcing them on American citizens who don't wish to be subjected to such regulation.

Please keep it on topic, and I'll allow you to self moderate responses. Many thanks.

Oh dear!...I got waspish there!...Sorry Pardon.
Unlike your American NCIS programme, I don't think that saying "Sorry" is a sign of weakness.
Just common courtesy.

Next point: Fiscal policy.

Germany said after the war that they knew they had lost the war but they would win the peace.
I was in Berlin about 20 years ago and the beautiful new developments in the newly united city told me that this plan still held force.
I spent time listening to the people around me. German is my second language and I am fluent.
Their fiscal policies are in line with their long term plans.

Our policies, governed by our banking system, which in turn was strongly influenced by the American banking methods and systems fell apart at the same time yours did.
It is taking a bit longer to rebuild but we are getting there and are more circumspect in our dealings nowadays.

Federally speaking, the E.U. is still the new kid on the block and there are some very big wrinkles to iron out before we are completely beautiful.
Like all new kids, we are sure we have great potential even when we seem to be behaving like depressed teenagers...all doom and gloom.
We are mutually supportive.
