Multi tools
Re: Multi tools
I haven't looked at the prices of the leather mans or gerber multi tools but twice now when I have subscribed to the shooting times (about £70-£80 per year for 52 magazines) I got a leather man one year and a gerber the next both as free gifts for subscribing.

Re: Multi tools
Hello folks, new to this website. Been prepping for ages, but am almost set for now.
On this subject, the Leatherman range is superb, whereas I have found the Gerbers, specifically the Gerber Suspension, to have quality issues. Having worked in a Cotswold Outdoor, I have experienced several returned with broken parts.
That said I own a Gerber Suspension. I did get it cheap, and always planned to buy a Leatherman ('LM') but never got round to it.
Looking at their range, their top end tools, Wave, Wave TTI, Skele-tool etc, they are gorgeous, shiny, but I am beginning to become less than convinced.
These LMs have got several knife blades, but very few actual tools on them.
So, I would recommend, a Gerber Suspension (look after it) and a Victorinox Swiss Champ. This combno will give you lots of functions, and you can legally EDC carry the Swiss Champ (non-locking, less than 3 inch blade etc)
True - the pliers are tougher on the L-Mans, but really, if you want great pliers, buy pliers.
The Gerber Suspension has a range of good tools, and the Victorinox will cover everything the Gerber doesn't, notably can-opener, cork-screw, etc.
Plus buy a good knife - 2 x Mora sheath knives for 20 pounds on Ray Mears . com. Very nice for a tenner each
Regards,

Re: Multi tools
I own an american camper multi tool they are inexpensive but very very hardy, my father gave it to me as a boy and I've used it ever since its lasted though scouts and army cadets. It's also my edc knife that I use for work and household stuff, hasn't let me down yet. I would highly recommend one even as a back up.
