Educational as this conversation is, I don't think its a question of what would I do if I was king, I know I am not king and will never will be, and even if I was I would have to take into account the international issues of the world and all that jazz and would still have limited power.
HS2? I heard a rumor that there have been (so I hear) plans to connect Scotland with China by rail for ages. It seems like a rail line going up the middle of the nation would make sense as part of a greater rail plan and making everything high speed to reduce the quantity of air traffic would also make sense. Its gonna happen IMHO.
Nuclear? yes its gonna be part of our energy mix in the future and will take up some slack from the oil and gas plants in the future. Green power? yes we have to accept the fact that those magnificent beautiful wind turbines are gonna be sprouting up allover the nation bit by bit over the next few decades.
More economic problems? you betcha.
More market manipulation and energy market manipulation? Yep.
More crashes of the stock market ? yes.
It is important to have a forward looking perspective, and to discuss these matters, which is more than self evident in this particular forum. But what kinds of advice would you posters give to people who are viewing this as to how to get ready?
Be afraid? be worried? get angry?
erm..... that wouldn't be all that helpful.

IMHO, getting tools together that can help with power cuts and blackouts, supplementary heating and lighting, a few foods are easy to rustle up under those conditions and start to have a rotation of foods and things in stock so that you are always a few months ahead of any issues.

Don't worry about upsetting me Nick.
I regularly run around like Clive Dunn shouting "Don't Panic!"

We're forecast three days of snow at the beginning of next week. Not sure whether it'll land or not; our forecast can change quite dramatically in the space of a few minutes. Don't mind if it does turn up though, it'll be nice to get some more pretty landscapes :)

I always look forward to it looking seasonal. i don't go sledging these days, but its just nice to be out in snow or a hard frost. Walking in the snow, whether its just a walking the city or in the woods is just magical.

I think thats just the big kid in me.

I love snow too. No woods near here, but we have an excellent supply of moors and hills :)
