Advice on my options ( in a serious social collapse)
Re: Advice on my options ( in a serious social collapse)
In a serious social breakdown scenario "bugging out" has too many dangers. Think of the supplies you need to obtain and the possibility of not arriving at the place you have chosen due to transport restrictions and road closures. I cannot see how bugging out can work but open to suggestions. If say your property was seriously compromised then if you have enough space you should at least have a secondary form of cover say an old mobile home or even a large tent. If you are lucky enough to have underfloor storage make sure it is well hidden and ensure your family do not tell others about it. Any underfloor space must be ventilated well (without the need for power) and the heating source safe to use below ground level.

This would be my choice if i could, Turn the transit in to a travelling home.. A bed with storage underneath, cupboards and sink area..
At home we have everything available for everyday use, but also its all packed in plastic storage boxes ready to go if we need to move.. We already live further out of the city, but its still close enough that if SHTF we could have marauders looking to see what they could find.. So we are looking to convert a small area of loft space thats hidden via the eaves of the house in to a hide out area that we can shift the supplies up to and get in within 30mins, muzzle the dogs and hope for the best!..lol

Don't you believe it! Once the "marauders" as you put it exhaust there options close to home they will motorise and come looking. Nowhere in the UK is really far enough. You have got to be as inconspicuous as possible so they target elsewhere.Optimystic wrote:unsure wrote:...city, but its still close enough that if SHTF we could have marauders looking to see what they could find...l

if it gets that's bad HH there wont be any fuel, consider how far your ordinary "marauder"(fancy name for a looter) would walk in a day, in inclement weather, in the winter, unless they are serious walkers(doubtful) I don't expect it will be far!

I have several hopes...
1. It will hopefully be a few days before they realise the real trouble they are in, during this time i imagine a lawless rioting/looting to begin.. in this event many would be injured if not killed, as they would be too busy stealing useless plasma TVs and searching for microwave food and KFC!!.. Add starvation and lack of clean water, illness, injury, murder. Having watched the rioting a few years ago, ppl dont tend to think too clearly, its definitly rampage time, rather than bigger picture time. Yes many will have the brains to move out for safety, looking for a safe place to settle, but hopefully by the time the rest work it out, they will have used up resources like fuel, food and water and be left on foot.
2. It would still take a few weeks for ppl to kill each other off for the food and supplies in the city they live, giving me time to get more prepared and for the village to get organised to defend itself. Where I live there is one road in and out pretty much, and one entrance is a bridge.
3. Pray for the best!

All very Mad Max for me
Historically the Gods in these situation are as rocking horse poo... nowhere to be seen, or indeed taken to be punishing us for pissing them off in some way, all the Christians out there ought to head the archbishop and all those CoE clergy, they appear to be saying we'll be going to burn if we let the current regime keep control.3. Pray for the best!
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

"a few days before they realise the trouble they are in"?? their so thick it'll be WEEKS before they realise no help is coming, by which time all the food shops are looted and burnt to the ground, that's after they've taken all the plazma TV's and mobile phones they can carry most people haven't got a clue!!

Re: Advice on my options ( in a serious social collapse)
Food shortage i really the big issue. When it starts to get scarce the queues will form at food outlets. That would be a place to avoid. In fact, if the savvy can see what's coming then visit the nearest place with some friends and stock up (but don't show your loyalty cards but pay cash and if you can keep your car out of their car park). try not to shop large amounts at your local (small grocer) store. Quietly go home do the normal things and go along with everyones grumbles, etc. Don't forget to be around if food is short still looking for it like everyone else. Don't feed your neighbors! Make sure you start to loose weight if the problem becomes serious and extends in time beyond say a month. Just a view - keep the debate going!
Re: Advice on my options ( in a serious social collapse)
I suspect the weather will play a major part. I agree that lack of food will be the trigger. Widespread rioting in cities will bring services like water and electricity to a halt.Optimystic wrote:I have several hopes...
If TSHTF in wet weather, it will take longer for rioting to get going so those going short will have more time to consider what is happening and their response (talk with mates about looting, etc.). If in dry weather, rioting will start sooner, water supplies will run out more quickly as collecting rain will not be an option and people will start dying of thirst or water-born diseases within a few days.
SHTF around 2017.

hygiene and disease will be the thing, especially with dead bodies-not just people-lying around.
