Starting to feel like you're still in school, Su?

I was going to post about this tomorrow, but this seem to be an opportune moment.

We have had a number of new members lately, and I just want to take this opportunity to remind people that this is a friendly community. Recently, there seems to be more emphasis on arguing with each other, one-upmanship and spitting ones dummy out of the pram. This has got to stop. Constructive criticism and healthy debate is fine, but if you want a slanging match with someone the moderators suggest that people take it elsewhere. Personal attacks and petty arguments won't be tolerated. They add nothing of value to this forum, and our members (well, most of them at least) come here for intelligent conversation, mutual support and to gather information.

The problem here is that people are giving medical advice to others without knowing anything of their medical history or general state of health. If you visited your GP, do you think he would prescribe something without first checking your medical notes??? As I said in the very first response to the OP, this really isn't the forum to be asking for medical advice on which "Prescription Medications" they or possibly even someone else (as that hasn't even been made clear in the OP) should be taking!

*sigh*

If someone is asking for information then that's their prerogative. As I mentioned earlier, healthy debate and constructive criticism/comment is fine. belligerent ranting just for the sake of it and to try to provoke a reaction or an argument is not. If there something that needs addressing, the moderators will address it. If anyone thinks that a post is inappropriate, flag it up, and the mods will look into it.

Additionally, if anyone is getting personal messages that they find inappropriate, rude or threatening, please tell the one of the moderators via personal message and it will be dealt with. Swiftly.

There is nothing wrong with posting that question on this forum.
He is not asking us to diagnose an illness etc.

He is simply looking for advice on a particular item to put in his preps.

There are many members with a range of medical qualifications who could offer advice, as they have done.

At the end of the day, we are adults and can chose what we store or do not store in our medical supplies and be it on our heads if we use it incorrectly.

That is my polite answer. I may not be so polite next time.

It may be time to consider locking this thread.

I would prefer not to make my professional background public, but how is anyone supposed to know who has medical qualifications and even if said qualifications are real?

All I have offered is 'constructive criticism' there has been nothing personal or bitchy, its just the opposite opinion to others and that seems to cause upset?? The whole point is to 'discuss' and look at all the angles after which an informed decision can be made.

What happens if someone (not necessarily the OP, but anyone reading this thread) stocks up on Levofloxacin for example and they have existing Kidney problems, or if they decide to give it to their children, or they are already on other medications which could cause and adverse reactions......

These things are not always as simple as people may think - take professional advice!

You seem to be taking this all very personally!

It is not your responsibility to decide what others choose to stock or not stock by way of medicines. As Sue has already mentioned, it is up to each individual. Asking about antibiotics is in no way illegal, so it is fine for someone to post on here about them and to expect answers that do not descend into ranting and a derailment of the thread.

I am not locking this post - yet. But I would ask that any further comments by anyone are directly in response to the OPs question and not criticising him/her for asking the question in the first place, otherwise they will be removed without warning.

*hint* know when to let it lie. That goes to everyone.

Nothing rude on PM. I believe we ended with a good idea about each others perspective on things. No bad blood or unfriendliness on my part, and neither on lonewolfs i believe(and hope :) ). We found some issues we agreed on and some we agreed to disagree on. Don't make this a storm in a glass of water.

I'm just sorry that the thread was hijacked for this, and hope that hillybilly got an answer he could use.
