Flint and Steels Fire Lighter
Re: Flint and Steels Fire Lighter
As usual, there is no right or wrong answer. I use both and in a SHTF situation, I'd use the fire steel when things are nice and dry and the lighter when things are damp to extend the life of both.
It's a cruel world.

And as for the 99p one from Hong Kong, I was prepared to risk the money

I just got these today. I never had a toy like that before so took me a while to discover which bit of rod I have to scratch with bit of metal attached. It sparks well and I did test it on dry cotton ball and napkin - works fine. It will last probably few hundred sparks at most, but for the price you can't go wrong.
I noticed you can get some good cheap stuff from China
I recently got weather proof matches for 1 Quid, chain saw for same price, and few other toys, all cheap and working. no need to spend 10 quid for flint imo if you can get 10 at better price and you won't feel sorry once you lose it somewhere.

I still do like Zippos though.
thats my findings too.....
i treated my self to a "ever lasting match" it lives in my survival tin........
think of it been a zippo crossed with a flint and striker...
ive deliberately overfilled mine with lighter fluid the excess fluid gives a couple of chances of a drop of fuel to get a fire going...
