For me it was seeing first hand what happened in Bosnia and Rwanda it showed me how quick thing can go wrong and what we humans are prepared to do for good and evil

But it was becoming a dad that made me be more careful and start looking longer term at how the world was going

Well i am new here and to preping and survival, ive been following the news and other world events for a few years now, a couple of years ago i thought i was just being paranoid storing food and stuff and also felt foolish talking about preping.
Well now i dont talk about it in public caus the general public just cant accept what might happen, prepping and survival is going to be my new hobby.
Looking at whats going on in the world theres plenty of evidence telling us it might just be a good idea to get prepared, the world as we know is changing and not for the better.

The reason im prepping is simple i just want to try and keep my family safe from whatever the future may bring. The main things that stand out for me are peak oil and of course the economy but as the economy is so linked to oil they may as well be one and the same.

The reason im here on this site is to learn from people more experienced then me and also because theres no one i know that i could talk about prepping to. My other half doesn't like the idea of me being interested in prepping.

Ive not talked in depth with her about it but when she see me reading things about survival or being prepared she shake her head and tells me she worries about me. I dont think thats because she doesnt like the idea of being prepared its more the image she has of what type of person feels the need to be prepared that she doesnt like.

For the past couple of years I`ve been going through some very hard times, both emotionally and financially. There have literally been weeks I could barely afford to eat.
Due to circumstances, there was also a time recently I couldn`t work except erratically, which, being self employed, meant even less money. So I had to use up my stored goods and am now back at square one. That`s what gave me the incentive to look for a place like this.
I now know first hand what things I needed but didn`t have, and what I could have left out to save cash.

So sorry that I've hardly been here... Genuine reason.

This is just a quick post before I'm off again... Yesterday I bought a pack of 16 loo rolls (nice and soft lol) for £5 in a sale at the Co op in Sheffield.

I'm not sure if it's all co ops, but I'm popping down there again tomorrow to get another couple of packs and thought some of you may be able to purchase some whilst the stocks last.

Because we have passed peak oil; because the middle east is in turmoil; and because I saw first hand how people behaved after three days of fuel strikes a few years back.

I began to get interested in the whole survival/prepping thing when I had my first baby five months before Y2K. Then 9/11 happened a month before I had my second child and the idea took a firmer hold this time and I began researching.

Now, two more children later, and I've built up a decent little library of various how-to books, including some great wartime ones, have a small but steadily growing food stash, a couple of generators, a dutch oven and tripod plus various other 'necessities' for keeping one well supplied with wild food and DH has happily come on board with my originally 'crackpot' theories.

I think having children makes you want to be prepared for them - it's instinct to make sure that they're provided for. That and they get very *very* loud when hungry.

Wartime books are fascinating eh I once read one where they found that if you use a razorblade you can make 1 egg do 4 rounds of sandwiches
