If I had to put soya in my tea ,I’d drink black.steptoe wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 7:26 amYou so right mate , that is what annoys me we all need to get back to buying local if we can , see farmfoods eggs are not from british farms either i think i forget now as do not have any packets of the eggs in but i am sure they are EU that is what annoys me , like you say pears and apples we should be eating our own produce inthe UK but our good quality food gets sold over seas and we then impost rubbish back .jansman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:02 amI currently still keep cockatiels, and had to pick up feed yesterday. Boy,that’s up £2 kg since I bought two months ago! Just listened to R4 Farming Today. Fruit farmer in Kent ( Gala apples ,Conference Pears) has cancelled 75,000 sapling trees. Cannot make money,as the supermarkets won’t pay a simple 10p per pack increase! Therefore the majority will come half way round the world from New Zealand! Eggs are the same.steptoe wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 5:32 am
wow where are you our stores have load i mean pallet loads .
@jansman i do understand mate just never knew it all went up so much , when i use to keep the parrots and parrakeets it was a pricey game to play in but then i had money so to speak , oyster shell grit was a price back then the same was with millet sprays for years they came by the box for around £15 and then a year later the priced jumped to over £40 a box no reason but again like i say i kept mine for fun but i did a lot of work for a lady who kept all rare breeds of chickens and quails she use to breed so many to sell to cover her hobby , some of the chickens with huge feathery legs omg and some with quiff heads lol i saw some funnies but like she use to say they re like her children and she just wanted to keep the strains going .
I do feel for farmers but i have worked for a few over the years and you do get the true farmer then you get the farmer who cries i have nothing but yet well i will not get in to that but they are not what i call farmers they are people wanting to make huge sums for little out lay
I would love to use the local farmer for milk but to be honest we use cravendale these days as we find it keeps the longest and as we do not use much as i am not meant to have milk lol but in a tea you got to have real milk all the nut milks and soay rubbish just do not cut it in tea .

So after some Web searches it seems that these mackerel are a slightly different species still in the mackerel family but nothing like the mackerel we know in the UK.
It's very popular in the 3rd world and often curried or put in patties, it's flavour is strong and needs lots of spice to cover it , still for the price it's OK.
I won't buy again.
Fill er up jacko...

One of the joys of not being a connoisseur, is not knowing what they're supposed to taste like, so not being disappointed. They're protein and they stay down. That's all I ask of them.steptoe wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 9:08 amI thnik i know the ones you mean in the red tin i think likea large tin of beans size , i got them once and lets say the fox was very happy to eat them lolVitamin c wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 7:43 pm Thought I got a bargain large tins of mackerel 99p from farm foods , we'll it's plenty of fish but it's not the mackerel I was expecting.

Next time, I might try rinsing off the rather rubbish sauce and tasting the fish. Mackerel always repeat on me something rotten, in any case.

Admiral's Pie.....
Aldi do one for 99p: I'm pretty sure it's from the same factory as LIDL's version which is 89p.
If I recall correctly, the Lidl one says on the box that it's prepared by Youngs for Lidl. With a handful of peas, the Lidl one made an acceptable lunch. No big chunks of fish, but enough fish flavour and the cream sauce was good.
Slight downside is they expect you to oven bake from frozen. OK to defrost, nuke to heat and then flash it under the grill.
Now to determine how cheaply a home made admiral's pie can be made, with a bit of farmfoods fish bits and a couple of mashed spuds

Footnote: In other news... Aldi Mid range Medium White Sliced Bread just went from 72p to 75p.

Re: Value Range foods compared
Peas.
Last time I got the cheapo Greengrocer ones from Sains they weren't that great. So here is Aldi Four Seasons compared to Sains own brand
Aldi.................Sains
900g................910g
89p..................1.25
99p/kg..............1.37p/kg
At the moment, Sains is 25p off, plus I get 40 points in Nectar app = 80p so is actually cheaper.
divide price by weight in kg if you need to work out price per kg. Eg if something weighs 500g and costs £1, £1/0.5 = £2 per kg

They make it difficult for obvious reasons. First you have to convert the file using an app. Printing is expensive though.steptoe wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 3:46 pmHey jen the book i told you about it is just a print out your better to go for the kindle version which the wife has done for me now , i have still not found a way to print kindle versions i know there is a way but as you know i am no tech person loljennyjj01 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 3:24 pm Admiral's Pie.....
