Started to TRY to rescue my strawberry plant, which is in a bad way. It had been over-run by a weed to add to it's other woeful neglect. All advice appreciated. I can see lots of advice on cuttings etc, but this is december, which i guess rules that out?

Just leave ‘em til Spring. Let nature work.

Thanks Jansman.
I removed the big choking weed and trimmed off the very dead bits. It has quite a solid rootball about as big as my hand.
Also relocated it into a 5L bucket that has drain holes in, to help prevent it waterlogging. It's already looking better. It must be a tough cookie to have survived so far.

Just leave it ..

As for cuttings you don't... After it crops you will see strawberry plants send out long thin tendrils or runners

When it does this clear a area around the runner and use a bit of stuff wire to hold it against the soil or against the compost in a 4" pot.. water tye soil often and it'll root once rooted well cut the bit from the plant and bingo free plant ;)

On top of my knee, coming down steps at work today, the bit above my Achilles tendon went ping.

My right leg is just about knackered today.

I thought I'd thought of all the options for Christmas with pneumonia sufferer - cancel, go, go to my sister's, give up and be on my own in my own house - but another option was offered: delaying from Sunday till Monday. I won't, sadly, I'll send my regrets directly. Still left the option of being at my sister's on the 25th - but she's been with said pneumonia sufferer for 2 days, so might be incubating, and she's going there tomorrow all day, for a third day, so she might get infected tomorrow.

Such a relief to say "no thank you" to it all! So I went out for a walk to celebrate
