Prep-wise, at home the mains power is off and power is from a 110AH 12v battery with 1000w inverter back feeding through our distribution board. Central heating is on, TV on, fridge on, router on. No lights, just the basics to keep the house going. I reckon we're drawing about 500 to 800 watts which means about 30 to 60 mins run time on this battery.
Hope you both feel better soon Briggs x

Same here, is the power outage because of the weather?
Mixing with germ-ridden kids, that was my downfall. I was lured in by the train set....I should have known better!
We have not had any power outs, I was doing a test while it was quiet at home. The battery ran things for an hour which I'm pleased with. if Halfords are still doing 10% off I may get another one. I'm using a 1000w inverter feeding through a generator/mains changeover switch.

Stick to the big boys toys
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Mother in law gave us a huge fruit box for Christmas so currently dehydrating pineapple, peaches, plums, cherries, grapes. Some might just be a bit of an experiment to see how they work. Smells lovely in my kitchen right now.
The sun is shining so planning to do some garden maintenance today.
Put some Christmas money aside to save up for a berkey water filter system.
My mum gave us a voucher for 2 chickens, all paid for so we just have to go and choose them. 2 of ours were taken by the fox a few weeks ago.
Currently reading The Preppers Cookbook by Tess Pennington. Got this for christmas from my son. Great information and some recipes to try using stored foods.
