Honda. The best, but they are pricey. I have a ( don't laugh!) 6 Kva site gennie( Honda) Got it off a bust builder for £200. I could power the street I also have a 2kw "suitcase" honda. Very quiet, very reliable. I think you could pay £ 500 or so for one of those. Good place to look is Machine Mart. Good website. Their "Clarke" brand gennies are made by Honda.
thanks jansman thats great info, ill have a look at machine mart before the money burns a hole in my pocket !!!
Dan , before spending, decide what you want a gennie to power up. Too small, no good, too big- overkill! Could save some gold, and petrol( same thing!).

I've got a cheapo petrol genny but I'd like a diesel because the fuel stores for longer. You can stabilise the petrol but I cant see it lasting longer than 3-4 years (2 according to the treatment but I think that's conservative ). Id love a lister genny converted to run woodgas but that's a pipe-dream at the moment.

- I have just done 24 x 1 Litre Canning Jars with Chicken. Just waiting for more jars to arrive, to do more canning....
- Also thinking about buying a food dehydrator.... any suggestions? are they any good? is it worth the money/hassle?
- Have been thinking about getting an IBC for water storage...
I probably now have enough food to last my family (2 adults and 2 small children) for up to 6 months, but only enough water for 1 month....
I've ordered 25kg of beans and 25kg of red split lentils from Www.realfoods.co.uk this is a really good site to buy bulk food at a really good price.
I also finished canning 24x 1litre preserving jars with chicken
And I am about to buy a food dehydrator.....
I think we have now enough food for 6 months (family of 4, 2 adults and 2kids), but we only have enough water for 1 month.... Getting there!
Last few days I've been hitting a few army surplus stores from Redhill down (been in the areas working), I've picked up four M65 field jackets for around £25 and under, also picked up two Czech M85 field jackets for £10, all in olive green as they go well with jeans.
ive spent the better part of the week boarding out my attic and generally declutering my home .
is really surprising how much junk you keep just hidden away .so far ive taken two landrovers full to the tip .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .
Making chutneys and doing a bit of food preservation is on the list for this weekend. (They make good Xmas presents too!) Just planted garlic in the allotment and bought onions to stick in the ground before the weather turns more winter than autumnal
