What Preps are you doing this week

theyre ok itsy, nothing replaces proper butter. Ive tried getting butter powder from the U.S. but the shippings really expensive via ebay and most of the companies that do freeze dried food dont ship over here because of import restrictions. Ive got tinned clarified butter (ghee) which is ok but tastes a bit weird on bread and crackers. Ive had butter buds sprinkled on toast and baked potatoes and you get a buttery taste but its still not butter. You can get sachets of it from lakeland.co.uk and on ebay if you want to give it a try.

What about for cooking in sauces and stuff?

Its a German company that supplies powdered milk and eggs, tinned butter and cheese plus a bunch of other stuff. A bit pricey but they ship to the UK for about 10euros...

They even sell long shelf life cakes in tins

yeah i have looked at conserva.de was interested in their tinned butter but the shelf life is only a year. I would only eat butter if I absolutely had to. Have to have a low-fat diet as am now minus a gallbladder

Happened to be in Tesco, where they had a "Managers Special" on Pickled Onion jars. 1p....ONE BLOODY PENNY! FOR A WHOLE JAR! Expiry date November 2012!!!!!!

I went to Tesco yesterday - NO PICKLED ONIONS FOR A PENNY...AND I LOVE PICKLED ONIONS

Planted the spuds, earlies and lates, 12 of each, so should hopefully get a good return.

Also planted about 54 onions, two black-currant and one red-currant bush and a couple of Rhubarb crowns.

Green house cleared so SWMBO can start getting the seeds in there and a few growbags for tomato and other greenhouse stuff.

Chickens coop rainwater collection connected up to the new water-butt.

IBC tank outlet altered to use a smaller tap. It's full as well, going to need it for all the crops that are going in.
