you dont notice the motorway at all the banks and wood cut the noise out, and unless you know what to look for the road onto our place is really easily miss ! when we where buying it we had to call the easte agent and have him meet us to find it

i think my wife would notice the noise..she has a problem with noise pollution.....we sat next to a farm about half a mile from the busy A30 with a tree belt between us and it and we could hear the noise quite easily.....i think older people are more suseptable to noise

you could start a breeding programme now-chickens and rabbits are easily kept in a small area and are something that poor people used to keep to feed themselves.

Bugging out: for some of our younger and newer members(old hands will know this already): firstly try not to bug out on routes that both the civil population and the authorities would probably use to evacuate cities. do not use any route that the military may use to deploy units around the country...unless you bug out BEFORE a collapse you can discount ACTUAL and any motorways, dual carriageways and major A roads. most main highways are referred to as "Kill Zones" by the military for good reason. your other option is not using these roads but PARALLELING them, if you bug out DURING a crisis you will find many roads either closed or blocked with refugee traffic. you could use the following to parallel your chosen route: footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways, canals and towpaths, power pylons, gas and water pipelines, rivers, canals, drainage ditches and storm drains, railways lines and abandoned railway lines, forestry trails and old roman roads, landmark to landmark(daytime only), underground systems where no trains are running and the power is off. originally posted on UKP 12/12/2010 author "Northern Raider".

well i recently had my first small aircraft flying experiance (credit to my friend for making me do it) and am now thinking, that would be an awesome bug out vehicle. why walk to your bug out location when you could fly....

flying would get you close to any bugout pretty quick but then your stuck with the problem of landing and other people will know vaguely where you are. Heliocopters would be a better idea but they are much harder to fly.

J.W.Rawles 'Patriots' book features a couple of people using some sort of ultralight (experimental-class ?) plane in a SHTF book. Short take-off, ability to land on unprepared surfaces and good fuel economy mean it isn't hugely impractical if you really fancy learning to fly. Sounds like it'd be fun anyway !

Sounds like a dream position to be in. It's so hard to find places like that in the last few years, everything has been developed  I'm hoping more land and farms will be up for sale next year though.
Where did you find it? Usual estate agent or classifieds? I've heard about checking local and farming classifieds for land and farms.
it was my wife that first saw it in country life of tatler , i was in afghanistan at the time and about to leave the forces but there are quite a few farms and land uup for sale , check out google here https://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&gs_nf=1 ... 66&bih=589 i think its small holding that are quite rare , but lands not cheep even now during a rescission

Thats not exactly an example of a plane with good fuel economy  A price of about $70million each and 4 crew mean it's probably out of reach to anyone living in the real world. I was thinking more of Image

i was thinking more like a cessna 173, you only need about 200 meters of flat ground to land one 250 meters to be safe... holds 4 people, if you were to buy 4 acres of land and fence/barbed wire/gate it off, im sure it would be a reliable bug out location assuming it was in a good location and had like a well dug or a spring. would not be too hard to build a runway, in alot off places (not airports) they use dirt track ones.
