My thread on 'knifes and the law' explains that I can't carry around my Gerber Prodigy knife because it would not be legal to do so - meaning that I've had to make the decision to leave out what could be a very valuable piece of kit.
I gave it some thought (also got the Prodigy) and decided that most situations that needed me to bug in/out would be such that the rule of law would be gone or severely overstretched , so the knife went in the bag (and the machete). But my BOB stays in the house so breaking no laws.

But..... I am in the process of setting up a GHB for the car and having a knife in it is a harder choice to make. :?:

I know what you mean tanstaafl. My bag at the moment is a bit of a this-and-that; by that I mean I'll use it to bug in, bug out, get home, everything really. I generally refer to it as a 72 hour bag for that reason because it covers everything :)

Your quite right in what your saying though, if I ever came to use the bag, the law probably wouldn't matter. But in day-to-day life I'm refraining from keeping the knife inside in case I ever get pulled over etc.

As far as your get home bag goes, a pen knife or Swiss army knife is perfectly legal, but admittedly not ideal. I also keep a 3" lock knife in my bag which technically is illegal. However, I very much doubt anything would be done if it where found out as its not easily accessible and amongst the other kit in my bag its obvious its not there to cause harm, but still its a personal decision whether to keep it in there. The Prodigy I've decided will stay at home as I don't think I would ever get away with that

Evening all - might be a bit of a long shot but have just taken delivery of a second hand Engine ECU for my Landie (was going cheap on Ebay) might just keep me moving if the worst should happen...:)

I've heard a lot of problems with buying second ecu's with issues of needing keys, ignition modules re programmed by main dealers , meaning that you need to buy the and ecu, ignition modules, keys, even remote central locking controllers as well as a lot of these systems are integrated into one another

My preps this week include sorting out my first aid kit. It is now becoming so large, I'm struggling to fit it into my 72 hour kit. Do I separate them and have a different bag for my FAK? Or keep it together and limit what I carry? Tough decisions.... :D

Or just get one that has the stuff you are really likely to need in a 72hr bag

Something like these are designed for such trips

Community building - I went to a local meeting last night about a developer's plan for some local countryside. I spoke up, too

And I just posted a youtube video on here that someone linked for me, its brilliant, about using a mobile phone to call the emergency services, in Europe or in about 70 countries, when you wouldn't normally be able to do so (locked, out of credit, etc).

De-cluttering.

Having a spring clean throughout the house, prepping wise means we have our stores organised, date checked, with oldest stuff ready to eat first. Now I can see where stores need replenishing properly, and the plus point is it's made more space for things we would actually need to eat or use in storage.

All kitchen cupboards cleaned out and stuff in there date checked too. Found some spice dating back to 1996 and gone hard in the jar, definitely not worth keeping. All this in date order too. My lists are updated so we know exactly where we are and what else we want to focus on.

This afternoon I took a first aid kit from stock and made up a small box with LED lantern, maglight, tealights, matches, lighter, cyalume snap lights, multitool, batteries , spare lightbulbs and a wind up torch. All for eldest Daughter in her all-electric flat.
