Advice please :)
Re: Advice please :)
Well done Scoobie!
In light of the recent Bin Laden thing, I'd have a look at some of the dirty bomb threads we've had on here too. It might well be worth carrying a dust-mask of some sort. Or get a Buff which perhaps won't look as odd in your pack if you are stopped and searched. Might be worth getting a folding bike just to avoid the Underground (the tube is my idea of hell).

What transport are you going to be on scoobs, train all the way ? or do you need to use the tube/buses etc
Re: Advice please :)
Congrats Scoobie!
Re: Advice please :)
Train into london, then two stops on the tube... I could walk it, but would take 40 mins to walk the tube distance...

Why are you against the knife?
I carry a Swiss Army knife all the time. It is legal and as we all know a knife can do a hundred jobs.
It would be the first thing I would take with me.

Re: Advice please :)
I'm just very very wary of carrying a knife anywhere, even a small SAK.
I'll probably have a multi-tool type device when I'm in the office for opening boxes, snipping cable ties, cab screws etc so if it all went tits up while I'm in the office, or near to it I will havev a knife available. I just don't want to carry one on public transport with me, especially as we draw nearer to the 2012 Olympics and security will be tightened in London, increasing the chances of stop searches...
My EDC will consist of the following:
Button compass
Multiple routes out of London marked on map/printed
Small FAK, painkillers, indigestion tabs
Dust mask
Torch on keyring, and better one in bag
Light sticks
Wet weather gear (fold up waterproof jacket)
Snacks
Water
Hidden cash (so I don't spend it down the pub after work!)
Hand sanitiser
Lighter & matches
Spork
P38 can opener
Paracord
Mylar blanket
Mini London A-Z
Have some of this already, but going to go out and get the rest of it today

Looks good Scoobs
Have you thought about trying to find some overnight accomodation as a fall back in case you cant get home for the night. If there are strikes or an "incident" that stops the trains/tubes running it might be worth finding an out of the way B&B or something that the main body of commuters aren't aware of....if thats possible in London

Re: Advice please :)
I worked night shift for 30 years and near us up on the moor we have snow gates. It was always my big worry that it would snow, they would shut the gatres during the night, and I'd be stuck on the wrong side cold and tired after a night shift. I sorted out a wee local B&B just in case, but I always got home ok
