Bladerunner wrote:Always handy to have some powdered milk in stock. I know it doesn't taste as good as proper milk but when you have been that brasic that you have had cornflakes with water, anything is a bonus.

Plus it lasts a lot longer than UHT milk.

Be Lucky (and homogenized)
we always keep a couple of tins of powdered milk to hand just in case we DO run out of milk, but with 24 cartons of milk we would need to be snowed in for 6 weeks before we had to use them, and i cant see that happening in the SW of UK!

You'd be surprised what can taste good if you're really starving, yes  A slice of HM bread with pure butter is out of this world when you're hungry.

Yes - the only downside is when you order online the "specials" or the multipacks which gives you bigger savings like the milk - ASDA frequently has a habbit of being out of stock of these items - of course you dont find out until your shopping arrives!! :(

Though sussed out my local ASDA most of their excellent specials run from Wednesday to Friday - maybe Saturday if your luckly - but most times by the weekend their gone and many are non- the wiser and poorer!!

Interesting comments on what was a basic report into how things taste after long time storage which were getting hit because of unemployment :).

Yup the mantras of "Eat what you Prep, Prep what you eat" and "Rotate, Rotate" are lovely and good advice, but sometimes not practical for every prepper.

I'm prepping for 7, but only have 3 physically here in a non SHTF situation. What works for us is to bulk buy long date tinned and dried foods to supplement other dietary input (when I have some spare cash of course ) For us these are 'prep' items. Yes they are dipped into at will and replaced as needed. But not on a daily/weekly basis.

However, with hundreds of tinned items from kippers to fruit cocktail it's a great relief to know we've only had problems with 3 tins of spuds. (I conceed I should have fermented the pineapple long ago, but she who must be obeyed had them tucked away in the attic).

And I do agree, the only decent coffee is ground. Black, no sugar please.
