On a side shoot to all of this - has anyone noticed how the cost of ASDA's tinned salmon has jumped in price - previous price for 400g tin was £1.58 its not £2.98 !!!! - yes this figure is correct - i nearly passed out. I love this salmon - but now at this cost I will only be able to cook half a tin at a time. - anyone else know where you can get decent tasting tinned salmon at reasonble price - unfortunately the one at Lidl is VERY salty and somehow the salmon seems very "tough" for fish......
Gawd, that's a bit of a jump - I haven't noticed personally as I don't eat tinned salmon. I stick to tuna. Both Sainsbury's and Tesco own brand (not the cheapy, cheap ranges) are pole and line caught, which is fantastic. So I just buy that. It's £2.50 for four tins of tuna chunks in sunflower oil at Tesco at the moment.
Yes its massive - Cannot for the life of me find the big 400g tins of salmon from Sainsburys anymore or Tesco - I am beginning to wonder if there is a shortage of salmon (or healthy salmon) with all the oil spills all over the place - the reality with Japan's nuclear waste gone in the ocean and all the different oil spills, I think affordable fish is going to be real problem soon - even fresh salmon fillets have gone up in price and they are so thin that its not worth buying. That's not bad for the Tuna will have a look online - again ASDA tuna has jumped from £3 to £3.50 - but found some of the John West Tuna in Iceland still for £3.00 so will try and get some and stock up.
Problem the cost of food is moving sooooooo quickly that by the time you get the money to buy it its jumped in price again!!!
I have no thoughts on this (or on much else at this time of night) but have to say that haggis is yummy.
Ok so I'm a well-read intellectual. I know this.
I had Haggis once, well a sample at a hotel in Inverness earlier this year, and I really liked it. My friend tried to hint what it was made from, didn't bother me as I already knew

Deep fried Bounty Bars served with Pineapple ala Nigella Lawson are even better!

Lots of tinned pulses! beans I just add them to a tin of soup and there you have it a thick nourishing stew, OK my wife doest agree but eh! it's simple and cheap.
We do have a "prep" cupboard a good sized larder it's full of tins and dried food, not having much money we buy lots when it's on special but the quantity is always enough to mix and match.
My other half had a idea to test our stores, she's going to make Christmas dinner only using the stuff in the cupboard! reckons there's enough just buy in some wine. what do you think? you got enough in stores?
