When I used the word "Designed" I wasn't consciously meaning designed in a godly happy clappy type of way, I was just using a word and could so easily have used other words.

However, now you ask, I do believe we were designed (very badly) and again not in the divine way.

I would strongly suggest watching the documentary "Everything You Know Is Wrong" by Lloyd Pye. It is on Youtube but keeps getting removed as the Powers That Be don't like you knowing this information. Alternatively you could download it from a torrent site.

Please do not crucify me over this until you have watched the full documentary. Until you do, you will not have all the information to make an educated decision for yourself.

As regards my meat eating habits, I probably eat more chicken than anything else. Last Sunday we bought 2 chickens for £7 from ASDA. We stuck one in the freezer and had the other one for tea on Sunday & Monday. Wifey then cooked up the bones for soup and we have chicken soup for tea Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. OK, by the weekend I was a bit sick of the site of it but one chicken (£3.50) for 6 evening meals is not bad going.

Throw in a couple of quid for the tattys, chicken stock cube, tin of peas and sweetcorn plus a loaf of bread and you are looking at less than £1 a day to feed two people.

Not bad going in the current climate of food price increases.

Be lucky (and well fed)

On an individual level, the scientific arguments around humans as omnivores or herbivores I don’t think there is much in it. Certainly a balanced diet and exercise has much effect on a healthy lifestyle, than whether or not you eat meat. So really it boils down to if you think its ethically right or wrong and that’s very subjective. When we are talking about society as a whole though, it’s safe to say everyone being vegan would be all but impossible.

Red Doe, my comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I certainly wouldn't ostracise or think down of anyone who ate meat, especially not 'thinking' meat-eaters. There are lots of arguments for and against on both sides. I do think as a society there is too much meat eaten here and it is unsustainable and 'farmed' in a very cruel way, and the same for the dairy industry. Especially for products which we import from overseas, where animal welfare legislation is poor.

As for what would happen to all the animals - I don't know about that. Let the old ones die of natural causes and euthanise the sick ones. The younger ones? I don't know. I guess in a shtf situation most of them woudl get eaten and the ones that weren't would breed back to a more natural kind of animal than the highly modified ones we breed at the moment.

That`s the point though, smiley...they`d breed. And that means they would need to graze land that would be crucial for crops for humans, so competition would arise and in the end, they`d be culled for it. Also, it`s highly unlikely humans would pay time and money to keep animals which serve no useful function other than for sentimentality or that they look pretty, or even ethics, in a world where food is fast becoming a luxury due to climate change, politics and economics, and overpopulation.

Since this is a survivalist forum prepping for if or when TSHTF.... and if that did happen then all question of being a vegan will be irrelevant because you'll either eat what you can or die.... then there's no point in this thread is there !

Fret not, Lil, I don't think Red Doe and I are going to fall out and get into a slanging match!

You are right, when the shtf just getting enough to eat will be problem enough. At the moment though I'm happy to be vegan and it's easy to be so as I live in the middle of a large city amply served with health-food shops. It's the one upside of sharing my space with thousands of other human critters!

I do too. Gravy, chips (drowned in vinegar) and a buttered bread roll - yum yum!

But don't expect mushy peas or a meat and tatty pie south of Watford Gap.

They have Jelllied eels down there and think pies have apples in them. :o
