Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
1. Ascertain the longevity/seriousness of the situation - is it likely to be a permanent situation or a temporary one? A hard one to fully suss but I think if your smart you will have a good idea. 2. If my mini-me is away from me, get her back. 3. Like everyone else said, fill the bath sink etc. 4. If its likely to be a temporary situation hunker in, batten down the hatches and barricade the door and wait for the situation to pass. If its gonna be a more serious situation, I want to suss what my neighbours are gonna do because I live in a flat with a communal ornamental garden and I am going to take over the shared space and (long term plan) grow food - would be easier with a couple of them on board but my downstairs neighbours may prove difficult. Long term SHTF he would die quickly because he requires oxygen everyday due to a chronic lung disease, but before that happened I could imagine he would be a bit prissy about the garden because he has been the one to tend to it and so considers it his garden. 5. definitely have a cup of tea and fill my flask with more tea for later
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
It depends on SHTF situation, coulesy wrote:Just a quick question and to head sheds please remove if it has already been asked.......
So lets set the scene, when your sitting around at home on your day off work and the SHTF and the world goes all crazy what are your Immediate actions lets say the first 5-10 things you would do....
I ask because myself and my oppo were discussing this the other day with the WAGS and it was funny how different and similar our responces would be.
If it is a financial crash, the banks are going to close, debit and credit cards useless and people will be in panic mode in the grocery stores, I would be checking food stores and implementing ration modes and beefing up security, filling up every available container with water, charging battries, doing laundry.
Power outage; Turn off electric appliances, turn on crank radio, swap cordless phone to corded phone, then check line is working, fill up watercontainers, set up candles and solar lights for latter, check on elderly neighbours take them hot water and see if they need anything cooking [they have electric stove & I have gas]
Power outage, mobile phone dosen't work, landline dosen't work, neighbours car wont start, grab very very large drink and ponder how long it is going to take for the 747 to drop on house [live on flight path to Manchester Airport and planes go over house every 2 minutes].
Flooding, unlikely to be affected as I dont live in a area that has flooding issues
Nuclear disaster, dont have a fall out shelter or cellar, so I guess drink myself into oblivion and die
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
First thing, for any situation, is to walk up to the school and fetch my daughter. Once we are back home, listen out for any news updates, have a cuppa tea (or ten cups more likely), get my Mom from over the road to come to my place (she is house number 1 in the road and I'm house number 2 - ha ha), get the dogs settled with us, and bunker down in the house until we have a better understanding of what is happening in the outside world.
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Why buy a action man "jerry can" when you can buy proper plastic fuel barrels now.
Its about £100 to fill up two with Red Diesel, i think i get about 130 lt for that sort of cash.
Remember though unless its TEOTWAWKI, dont use Red Diesel on her majesty's roads.

Mostly for portability. I gave considered the option of buying a drum of red but with nowt but the car to run it would go to waste if nothing happened before it went off.
65l is an off size for a barrel isn't it? Why not save some space and get a full drum delivered?

Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
I forget everyone dosnt have a 4x4 sometimes
Diesel lasts a lot longer than petrol but I am not sure how much longer... id be planning to wack it in 50% with the current day supply, I am pretty confident id get it running. Iv had stuff running on 70% veg oil before i cant see "stale" fuel being a problem tbh

Snap! The van I'd diesel but the car isn't! I got cans cos I've a bunch of nossels and a bag of seals from a boot fair last year!
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Diesel should last about 8 years in a good container, plastic isn't a good container as it absorbes air, a steel 20ltr jerry can full to the brim will be best.
Red diesel is about 86p a ltr at the "local" place where it is on the pump, so about £36 to fill two, but I also have a 210ltr barrel I am filling for the genny.

Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Even with a 4x4 you've still got to move it to the vehicle and lift it in. Then when you want to use it you have to lift it to.pour it in the filler. None of which is impossible, just easier with a smaller quantity
