You learn quickly on here who to not rise to ;)
Yeah I think I'm getting the gist scoobie ;) and I do try not to rise to it, but it does get tiresome, especially google vs I've actually been there and done it. Ah well, ever onward... :)

You'll find that some members don't like the fact that you're more experienced/better informed than they are. But I think you're dropping on pretty quick... ;)

Plenty of places for exploring Scoobie

I remember this one when it was still a working hospital, a bit of a sorry state in the pictures though.

Good chance I might know him or at least have heard of.. :D

If you have the transport I have the sites scoobie lol.

Man that's an ugly hospital the-gnole, haven't done that one but reminds me alot of Ladysbridge up near Banff in Scotland. The Victorian asylums on the the other hand are absolutely stunning in their achitecture, all being bulldozed to make way for developers to build more rabbit hutches for the masses.

The old psych unit a few miles out of town was a fantastic building, but the patients had a bad time of it from the local church burial records I looked through a while back :(

I think one of the youngest in there was about 4 or 5 when he died, his reason for being in there was recorded as "Imbecile since birth", he was Deaf and mute, parents couldn't care for him so away he went.

Looking at the picture you can see the two towers at the back of the one block, these are similar to the ones on prison buildings to ventilate the block. But it is in fact the chapel, sadly knocked down in the 90's
At the beginning of the 20th century, the asylum was enlarged due to overcrowding and verandahs were added for patients with tuberculosis. The name was changed to St. Mary's Hospital. A small isolation hospital was built in the grounds in 1911. In 1994 the hospital was closed. When most of the mental hospital was demolished to make way for a housing estate, it was first thought that the charming Italianate chapel towers might be saved. However, it soon became apparent that the towers were unsafe and had to be demolished along with rest of the building.|
The whole lot has now been turned into a huge housing complex

Hmmm, yep seen and read some horrendous records from 'hospitals for the mentally ill', Cane Hill nr. Coulsden in Surrey is probably the most disturbing place I've ever done, not only that is was 3am in the mornin in the middle of nowhere but the things scrawled on the walls and the patient records left lying everywhere. :( I think Cane Hill is now a luxury housing estate too, it's the land these places had that makes them worth millions, hence the security, stop people 'settling' on the site mainly.

Speaking of which, you very often never saw security on an explore until the lead had been nicked from the rooves, the buildings damaged beyond salvation and therefore up for demo, then the security were brought in en mass. Spooky number of fires started too on the old buildings with preservation orders or listings...

I love old buildings and especially Asylums, such beautiful buildings put to such disturbing uses. :(

This was written on the wall of one of the female wings at Cane Hill in lipstick it looked like, there was another shorter one signed Mimi Green.... Freaky! :o

I forgot to thank you itsy. :D

I know some things about some things, alot about a few things, and next to nothing about alot of things, just trying to find my way as are we all, if I can ever help anyone with what I do know, I'll be happy to, if anyone wants to come and have a look round some of the places I've seen I'll be happy to show em, I'm just a happy go lucky bloke really lol. :)

It's kinda hard to know where to stand when you're on a new forum sometimes, (I'm used to being the admin not the newbie lol), but I'll try my best, I have no hidden agenda, I'm just me! :D

Anyway cheers to all at UKP it's a great place.

I find much the same chef_

I have started trying to put together a few photo-tutorials for scoobie and other members of the forum when I find the time I'll do some more to add something useful and constructive to the forum rather than just talk talk talk I try to show show show what I have done and show others how to do it as well.

Positive and useful contributions as far as I can, using the skills, experiences and knowledge I have picked up over the years of both prepping and generally living my life, there are a lot of people who perhaps think it is showing off and chose to either dismiss or have a dig at my input, that's up to them, they can always add me to their ignore list, after all I'm not missing out on much, but they might.

I think that those of us with knowledge should pass it on to others and guide others through the mine-field of do's and don'ts especially the legal system (whether we like it or not) there is in the UK.

I am looking forward to seeing lots of useful stuff on here from yourself and other members, I hope that the tutorials I have done recently will encourage others to get their cameras out, get out of their comfort zones and do some more to give us all the benefit of their attempts, others will however just sit back and criticise, and add little to the whole experience.

I'm sure we will get something from you about being a chef before long, and hopefully some great tutorials on preparing meals in a survival SHTF situation
