Re: Money, money money
I always saw buying into precious metals as a way of preserving wealth rather than as a replacement currency WTSHTF. People cant find a safe investment at the moment so look to preserve wealth in a tangible 'solid' investment. I don't see that you would ever want to pay for something with a silver or gold coin but you never know!? - This is where bartering will take the place of currency so get stocked up on useful barter items!!

I remember reading on another forum once (prepper unrelated) that the best investments in a crisis would always be guns and land........you can get food with either.shrophopper wrote:I always saw buying into precious metals as a way of preserving wealth rather than as a replacement currency WTSHTF. People will always want a way of protecting themselves so weapons will always be a good investment, but from a UK standpoint its not really practical. I was watching Moonshiners on Discovery the other day and most the people on it seemed a little backwards but the stills they used were very simple and did the trick, apple brandy or blackberry brandy would be a good trade item and very doable, well if you stock up on sugar. Cider would be easier.Vespa wrote:I remember reading on another forum once (prepper unrelated) that the best investments in a crisis would always be guns and land........you can get food with either.shrophopper wrote:I always saw buying into precious metals as a way of preserving wealth rather than as a replacement currency WTSHTF. Other than that seeds would work.

Re: Money, money money
If anyone remembers the 20p print error, when they made dateless 20ps accidentally, I found 4 and they go for around £200 each. So if the shtf I have a number of coin collectors ready to pay cash for them. That's my household money

Trust me bulldogeagle, if I could afford more I would. The OH spends it before I can save it.i dont think £50 would last very long in an emergency, most people spend more than that on a normal weeks shopping, i'm guessing in an event that amount wouldn't go very far!

WASTE!!!!!!sorry to hear that does she spend it on prepping supplies?or does she waste it?
I get the same thing all the time. "Oh no, you havent bought more tinned food have you?" This is followed up, two days later by... "baby, you know that tin of tomatoes you bought, can I borrow them for tonight's chilli?"
Two steps forward...
