I've seen a whole container buckle completely whilst being back filled. Both the side walls went then the end wall went. When the guy tried to get in, there was barely 3 feet of head room left..... Imagine if the whole family was in there!? It's not nice thinking about.

His whole shelter (along with a lot of time, effort and expense) was left in a crumpled heap at the bottom of a very deep trench that took him 3 months to dig by hand! He took the quickest and cheapest option to put things right..... He just back filled everything back up to ground level and has gone back to the drawing board. As far as I am aware, he's now fortifying his basement! God help the house :shock:

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it but DO NOT BURY SHIPPING CONTAINERS. They are just not designed for this sort of thing! You can buy these cheap enough starting around £2k but to do it safely you'd have to spend AT LEAST another £10k on a structural engineer, all the RSJs and a welder to beef the whole structure up - but this will just be a basic enhancement anyway.
