I recommend applying for an allotment now. Usually there is a waiting list of several years. By the time your name comes up you will either know if you like gardening or not. If at that time you don't want to take it up then the person behind you in the queue will cheerfully accept it.
Also, not sure if you know, but aubergines and peppers are generally indoor/greenhouse plants in the UK. They need lots of continuous warmth to produce fruit which the UK summer does not usually provide.

I shall certainly consider applying. I'm swithering about it because I'm not sure if where I'm living is where I want to be long term yet. It makes choosing a site a bit iffy.
The aubergine and pepper plants can quite happily stay on the south facing window ledge where they are currently sat. The entire long side of the bungalow is south facing and is a real sun trap when the sun does come out. I may consider getting a mini greenhouse to sit outside if space becomes an issue.
Well after a couple of months of hitting the food stores (I wanted to save some money so we could go on holiday) I really need to do a stock check and start replenishing. I already know we have no Heinz beans left .......only *whispers so child cant hear* Crosse and Blackwell!!! And dont get me started on the loo roll I feel like a failure
On a more serious note, I was very happy to learn how little money I could spend, and how far my stocks could be stretched and that the stores I have are very good at providing a basic level nutrition, with quite a bit of variety. I also learned that my child will never tire of rice pudding!!
Had a sort out of my medicines box. I can safely say I have enough Paracetamol to cause the death of half the town. I'm working on Ibuprofen now, then co-codamol and some antihistamines.
I'm embarrassingly short on first aid supplies.
Also need to replenish some hygiene products and household stuff like tinfoil, freezer bags and such. I use them, and forget to replace them.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain~anon
also stocked up on a few cold cures. Its summer soon, and summer colds are a b@gger. And if I don't use them in the summer, I can use them in the winter and etc etc ad infinitum kinda thingy

Family member has just discovered that we need to stock up on pain/and Ibuprofen (didn't let on that I had tonnes) and couldn't believe that you are only allowed two small boxes at a time? so no more WHAT more pain/ibuprofen The light is slowing dawning
AREA's 5-6 and 4 Feet the original All Terrain Vehicle
As I had previously got through all of my stores of stored food whilst i was waiting for my pay to come, I have now gone online and done a massive tesco shopping load to make sure that I will be ok the next time I have an issue with pay. More than 100 cheap tins, loads of lentils, mash and all sorts.
Probably enough to keep me alive for a few months if anything goes wrong.

Going to tidy up my growing food stores, and purchase a few more amusing looking things from conserva.de to sample. Will also go to a normal shop and stop up on some more tins, lighters and maybe get a little solid fuel cooker.
