What Preps are you doing this week
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Well, three hours up at the allotment today got the pumpkins fed, some marrows lifted and more beans and lettuce - so not bad!
My last ditch sowings will be done tonight in the greenhouse - chard, rocket, pak choi + general lettuce so that I can fill some of the gaps from the potatoes etc. + keep the beds going as long as possible (not that easy up here 'though!). All of the preserving and harvesting is a lot of work right now but it'll be worth it over the winter when we have stores to turn to (a bit like prepping in general!).

Arzosah, that information I am working on now. How much paperwork does a human attract? Bonkers, but without it we do not exist.Arzosah wrote:Jansman, thats exactly what I have! The thing that took me the longest was the little booklet full of my financial, insurance, professional, online etc information.
Tonight I've been hacking away at dead bushes, clearing the ground so I can plant - its going to take a while, but I'm really happy I've finally got round to it.

So true ... I kept telling myself, if you didn't have the stuff/live the life, you wouldn't need all this, so just be grateful! It did help in the end, but I've not been very good at keeping it updated ... I've already had to change a few passwords on one site or another, and I haven't updated the booklet
must do better!

Hi, "Jansman" & "Arzosah" can I ask you both in what form you have recorded the data i.e.: paper or electronic means as I have yet to take on this task myself.jansman wrote:Arzosah, that information I am working on now. still on the search for health and fitness, ordered myself a pull up bar for a door frame. After a few months will probably get myself a set of weights to play with.

OK, so much for plans!2ndRateMind wrote:
I've decided to concentrate on water and fire, as far as equipment goes, as top priorities.
Soon as the next giro comes in, I'll get some matches - probably around 20 small boxes, probably Swan Vestas as you don't need the box to strike them. It would be nice to get some small, sealable, waterproof plastic bags to store them in. Also, some waterproof matches, prob 3 boxes, one for each kit. Also, one of those spark strike devices they sell for survival kits (can't recall the proper name). If I have any change left from my fiver, I'll spend it on disposable cigarette lighters.
As for water - Tesco do fizzy water at 17p for two litres. I normally buy it anyway, to mix with fruit juices to make a long drink out of. So I'll just up my purchase rate beyond my consumption rate.
PS. - As for blackberries, I went out yesterday and foraged 2kilos in 3 hours. Blowed if I'm going to make jam out of it, though. 2 kilos is enough for a gallon of wine!
I've bought 4 more litres of fizzy water. Tesco put the price up, though, to 24p for 2 litres.
Ordered the plastic bags from Amazon. Will be buying matches when I can find somewhere that sells Swan Vestas. Ordered some wind/waterproof matches, 1 set for each kit. Ordered 10 cigarette lighters.
Best progress is on the wine front. I've got 3 gallons of rice, and 1 gallon of blackberry on the go. I'll bottle a gallon of the rice, and use them for Christmas presents. The remainder can all mature in demijohns for a year. Unless I get thirsty, that is!

I just panicked at this and checked online - Asda and Sainsbury are still supplying at 17p - on the basis that it's a 41% increase2ndRateMind wrote:2ndRateMind wrote:
