I've tried this but I found the water seemed stale after a while, not sure why, maybe my tap water isn't so good..MBJ wrote:jooqey, on the water front, you can also use any drinks containers that you would normally throw out. We purchase a lot of 2L Pepsi Max bottles in a week which before I started prepping would just be thrown away. Now I simply take off the labels, wash them out and fill them with water and store them away. I can easily get a gallon a week from doing this and it doesn't cost a thing.

If water tastes 'flat' after storage it is probably due to lack of oxygen. Swilling it around or pouring it from one container to another should sort it out.sniper 55 wrote:I've tried this but I found the water seemed stale after a while, not sure why, maybe my tap water isn't so good..MBJ wrote:jooqey, on the water front, you can also use any drinks containers that you would normally throw out. Ooo cheers for the heads up on the batteries Andy. I missed out last time they were in and they are hands down the best rechargeable batteries out there.
Must get my solar generator set up too.

Have been watching TheUrbanPrepper on YouTube and his fastidious organisation of his preps made me cast an eye over the jumbled mess of boxes lurking in random corners of the house. I went off searching for all my preps and there is still stuff that I can't locate What use are preps that you know you have but can't find? So...have started to think about proper organisation. Haven't actually commenced organising it all yet, but I figure thinking about it is a start! Now...how to stop distracting myself on fleabay and amazon.....!

I'm terrible for this, I have some of my stuff very haphazard and every now and then I have a tidy up only for it to miraculously end up all over the place again. I'm hampered a bit by not being allowed to stash stuff under the bed (a mad wife who thinks the monsters hide behind them) and my food preps are pretty substantial now so take up a lot of garage space, discretion is tricky. Being a lazy git is also part of the problem unfortunately too.ukpreppergrrl wrote:Have been watching TheUrbanPrepper on YouTube and his fastidious organisation of his preps made me cast an eye over the jumbled mess of boxes lurking in random corners of the house. I did a complete stocktake of all my medical-type stuff recently, thanks to medic mark's posting. I do need to print it out, but that won't be happening today.ukpreppergrrl wrote:Have been watching TheUrbanPrepper on YouTube and his fastidious organisation of his preps made me cast an eye over the jumbled mess of boxes lurking in random corners of the house. Other stuff: 95% of my hedges have now been cut back to the boundary line, and the extra light, in the house as well as the garden is astonishing. Better growth already from some of my perennials.
I've been checking where I'll be staying in London when I cat-sit, just for the sake of the analytical exercise, really, I'm not expecting anything to happen. Closest of all is an old friend. And there are two nephews within walking distance, though I don't think one of them would take me in

On the topic of storing stuff,it can get a bit overwhelming tbh. This last 12 months I have actually been getting rid of stuff. In the early days I needed everything of course, but as time has passed and knowledge has been gained it's a case of what I don't need. Its quite liberating actually.
Whilst driving today and listening to the radio, there was a programme about marketing. The narrator stated that after you have got your daily 2000 calories, water to drink and a warm, dry place to sleep, then you are pretty much set! Pretty much my philosophy these days.Wish I had had that laid back attitude when starting out.I really thought the world was doomed!
Now I don't let the job get on top of me.I even turned down the offer of a load of fence posts for firewood yesterday. I have plenty of wood at the moment and I would rather go fishing than add to the pile of wood that needs processing.

Mrs Shocks is furious at the state of the kitchen cupboards, i.e overflowing with food. Now I do get her point, that its very hard to find anything now, but...being upset because theres too much food in the cupboards?
Im having trouble getting my head round that. When Im not struggling to get more shelves and storage sorted that is.
Did I mention that Mrs Shocker frightens me? Im in awe and completely humbled by even slight annoyance on her part
