Surely if you buy one lot of heirloom seeds then the next year you can use the seeds from your first crop to replant? Or are you looking at getting a personal seed bank up and running Hobo?hobo wrote:Yep, realseeds are fab.

I'm fedup with seeds, they're very hit or miss. Sometimes you put in a whole packet and get 6 plants from it.

Have planted my early spuds and are just chitting my maincrop. Have planted in the greenhouse - celery and sweetcorn (from realseeds). Last week planted lettuce and radish which is just starting to show through the soil!!
(I also have beetroot, carrots, parsnip, french bean, runner bean, courgette, chillic pepper, and toms but no sign of them yet)

Yes, I'll be using the seeds from all the veg I've planted this year. The new batch is in reserve. A seed bank, yes!itsybitsy wrote:Surely if you buy one lot of heirloom seeds then the next year you can use the seeds from your first crop to replant? Would be interested ot know how you get on with your dutch oven. Could you post a review and maybe some pics?pietka wrote:Dutch oven arived yesterday! gonna test it this weekend! transplanted my pea plants and planted onion, garlic, carrots and more! =)
Also, I don't know much about these things but do they need to be 'seasoned' before using?

We have a Lodge Dutch oven, it came pre-seasoned. Have cooked stews and curries in it. What are you going to cook in yours? I must get around to testing out how to cook bread in it. Maybe this weekend....
Going to plant onions and potatoes this weekend and sort out strawberry bed.

Had a good week here, got some decent weather for once and got some planting started, lot more that needs to wait a bit yet. Need to work on the husband to let me have some of his precious grass to dig over as I'm running out of room
The hens have been spoken to sharply and have started doign their jobs properly - an egg each a day-at last
Two identical hens (apart from eye colour) but one lays huge white eggs and one lays small brown ones

I was thinking about your soil, Lil and maybe if you get some horticultural fleece to go over it, it would warm the soil and you can plant sooner. You could also use black plastic to heat the soil. Just a thought!diamond lil wrote:Had a good week here, got some decent weather for once and got some planting started, lot more that needs to wait a bit yet.
