What a fantastic engine that guy is using in your link, Hamradioop. That's the kind of thing I've been doing with my Lister and Wolseley engines - using both car alternators and dynamos. In the new year however I will be looking at alternative energy sources, but neither of these alternators will end up in a wind turbine, I have a motor for that purpose....
I have, however, decided I need a donkey engine on a log-saw! Thanks for that
Regards,
Steven.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
have been reminded on how little I have flexibility as my back has started to play up again (ouch! ) so my next stage is to bring that into line and as well as getting back to my normal exercise routine (that slacked off over December) to get back to my neck and back exercises as recommended by various physiotherapists and osteopaths over the years .

Just arrived home from our local ALDI store, along with a 6KG powder fire extinguisher cost £14.99. I think I will go and get another as fire fighting equipment is one thing we are short of.

I was eyeing them up last time I was in Aldi. I need to go there later today. Might pick one up - thanks for the reminder!arnieh wrote:Just arrived home from our local ALDI store, along with a 6KG powder fire extinguisher cost £14.99. Today I have a friend coming round so I need to clean house. Good excuse to start on one of my goals for 2014 - box up some stuff to go in the loft to free up space for more preps If I can free up some drawers today, I'll be quite pleased.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Went back to ALDI and we are now the proud owners of 2 fire extinguishers all we need now is a decent fire blanket and ideas please? Wishing all on the forum a happy new year from a very wet and windy Kent.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
you want one that complies with BS EN 1869: 1997
standard domestic size is 1x1m square
if you look about you can get 1.2 by 1.2 m ones or larger... larger is better for clothing fires..
1.8 by 1.8 would be far better in my eyes almost twice the size of a basic one

made sure that the small box freezer on my upright fridge freezer is literally full up to the point of not having any room for anything else in it thus keeping me in meat and veg for main meals for quite a while.
Not necessarily a doomsday situation as we are only talking about a few weeks of lunches, but what happens if the floods and all the rest expected on new years day and possibly thereafter do get worse and ones ability to get food is reduced thanks to bad weather?

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Sometime since I last posted, but I haven't forgotten you guys.
I now have 20 days food supplies in stock. Planning now to buy oil/salt/chillipowder/dried herbs/spices etc for trade and to make what I have halfway palatable.
Got my fire-making gear sorted. Steel and flint, swan matches/waterproof matches, cigarette lighters. Planning to get solid fuel firelighters, next.
Am starting on fishing gear. Things like swivels, hooks, line, weights and floats. Concentrating on sea-fishing gear, since that is where I intend to be when SHTF.
Hope you all had a wild christmas and new year.
Best wishes, 2RM.
