Good luck in your new job in London though. With your EDC, you'll probably find it's a 'work in progress'. I've tweaked mine God knows how many times since I started, and it's still being tweaked now. I now try and keep it fairly light as I cycle. I've currently ditched the fire-lighting and cooking bits, but they may make a return soon.
Maybe think about getting a folding bike, that you can take on the train and then cycle to your final destination. I won't tell you which Bromp- I mean bike I've got. But it folds up nice and small...
Another advantage is that I could cycle all the way home in (I estimate, looking at the map) about a 1.5-2 hours, if public transport completely went up the swanny. Plus I've got friends in outer London I could get to if need be.
