Never had Haggis but I suppose it is just a meat pie with no pastry.

many other vegans here?
Re: many other vegans here?
But people need to understand that it's OUR FAULT, not the animals. Why do you say that animals need to serve a useful function? We share this planet, not own it! This reminds me of one of my client's who says that for example dolphins should be killed off as they are pests who it our fish - WTF? And regards your question - what would happen if the whole planet become vegan overnight? Logically thinking it wouldn't happen overnight and just like humans started eating meat slowly, through thousands of years it would probably be the same but in the opposite direction.Red Doe wrote:As for what would happen to all the animals - I don't know about that. Let the old ones die of natural causes and euthanise the sick ones. The younger ones? I don't know. I guess in a shtf situation most of them woudl get eaten and the ones that weren't would breed back to a more natural kind of animal than the highly modified ones we breed at the moment.
That`s the point though, smiley...they`d breed. And that means they would need to graze land that would be crucial for crops for humans, so competition would arise and in the end, they`d be culled for it. Also, it`s highly unlikely humans would pay time and money to keep animals which serve no useful function other than for sentimentality or that they look pretty, or even ethics, in a world where food is fast becoming a luxury due to climate change, politics and economics, and overpopulation.
My view on meat eaters is that it's their choice and I'm not gonna tell them what to eat (not my plate) but I will always inform and guide them if they pay any interest in a vegetarian/vegan diet.
As for what would happen after TSHTF? I would live off my stock and whatever I can grow and if a day would come that I wouldn't have anything to eat, then this would be my day. I have a buddhist view of life and wouldn't kill anything just to survive another week.

Admirable viewpoint, but not everyone shares it. And I have known buddhists who admit that in a crunch, their beliefs may go out the window if it involves the lives of loved ones.As for what would happen after TSHTF? You are quite preachy about your beliefs and this, being honest, is what gets my back up. You have no right to judge others, not unless you want others to sit in judgement of you, you see.
Your view that `it would be the same over thousands of years` is illogical given the different stage of technology and knowledge humanity is at now. If you envisage some gentle, flowing reversion into veganism, don`t hold your breath.
You say you won`t tell meat eaters what to eat, but your posts are quite vindictive, condemning meat eaters out of hand, with a holier than thou attitude which typifies every vegan I`ve encountered.
Tell me, if you can.....even in a slow reversion to veganism (and it`s doubtful humans were ever vegan in history btw, since bird eggs and fish were pretty much always eaten), who would care for the animals not being eaten? Vegans?
And how would they afford this because like it or not, to care for ex livestock would cost. In terms of time and food, veterinary care and other issues.
Who would decide how much crop can be grown to feed animals versus humans, in an over populated world where competition for crop food amongst humans is already fierce?
And you know, we may share this planet that is true. But we are ALL part of the food chain, like it or not, and as such, NATURE gives us the means...including brain, body functions and instinct..to feed ourselves. We were always capable of feeding on an omnivoric diet, that includes meat. As meat eaters, livestock is our responsibility, to care for and to control in order to provide their function, yes, in order to feed us. That`s why we domesticated them in the first place.
Ownership? Think again. We DO own livestock. Just as humans in very many places are also owned, in very many ways. It`s the way of nature. Survival of the fittest. Not saying it`s right, but it is the way things are.
Nature is not some airy fairy sweet and light vegan paradise. It`s very much red in tooth and claw.
So keep to your ways, nobody argues with that. But please quit preaching, or you will continue to receive responses like mine I`m afraid.

I think this thread should be locked now, as things are starting to get personal.

If you're a true buddhist then you know that after this life you'll have thousands more and it is all in a progress way so you don't worry about dying. You should cherish and protect your life but not at all cost.Red Doe wrote:Admirable viewpoint, but not everyone shares it. Unfortunatelly I disagree with everything else you posted there too, sorry.
This is becoming like the PC vs MAC argument
Re: many other vegans here?
Och don`t worry itsy, I`m off anyway folks`ll be glad to hear.
Damn right it got personal though....why on earth should someone be allowed to preach to others who don`t share their beliefs or ways, yet nobody can respond in a common sense, down to earth manner? This is a prepping site. I never took it for somewhere that any flake can air their views unchallenged. If that`s the kind of debate you like, fair on ye.
I`ll bugger off and stick to my common sense though thanks.
Be well and keep prepping folks, for whatever might come your way, be that nukes or poverty or a horde of ravening vegans beating you round the head with messages of emotional blackmail.
